If you guys are actually arguing over taste, I'd recommend taking a day off and coming back to agree to disagree over someone else's opinion.
If you're arguing over games being better in the past as a matter of taste, the same applies.
If you're arguing over games being poorly designed today with a sample set of 1 franchise of AAA titles iterated over the past two decades, and the series committing hara kiri 3 sequels in under the stewardship of the original developer no less, I'd say that's a laughably narrow point of view.

Put the boy on a leash, and your accompanying bullshit with it. You've both already initiated a potential flame war by interrupting a harmless discussion with personal attacks. I know you're both excited for E3 and the super cool looking AAA, but calm yourselves, drink your mountain dew...we don't need a round 2.
Heh. Don't worry I'll be on my way. I don't belong here, not in this sub-forum anyway.

Good. I don't know where you get the 'personal attack' bit from, honestly, but your approach to this thread hasn't been what I'd call a healthy discussion.
And anyway, it's not like there's any room in here for a little objectivity or things such as different perspectives, after all.

You were mocking my character, my belief that generally speaking, things have gone downhill for games, most notably in gameplay and business practices of publishers. but never mind. I'd be highly tempted to do the same if you and henke were in my domain shitting the place up with your Assassins Creed and Watch Dogs threads.
Ciao now.

*sigh*
It's just a game and I happen to be enjoying it. I even enjoy the silliness of realistic visuals with obvious game conveniences of campsites in predictable places.
I can't remember a time when someone wasn't saying the gaming industry was going downhill. I think there is a resurgence in variation because of the accessibility to tools like the Unity engine.
Tomb Raider isn't one of these. Certainly not worth this juvenile bickering.

Well that was an impressive statement...

then became increasingly style over substance beginning with TR: Legend, which you may be surprised to hear was designed by Doug Church
Wait, seriously? That game is dreadful and goes against all the LG design principles - I had no idea he was involved. Really perplexed by that.
Nameless Voice on 14/6/2016 at 22:27
Yes, I think we can all agree that game is dreadful. The few nice levels fade from memory after being displaced by the nightmare that was the forced motorcycle combat section.
I'm still amazed that they managed to make Anniversary after that, which I felt was a really faithful remake that kept all of the old-game feel of the original (or, at least, of my memory of playing the original back in the day), apart from a few random QTEs.
froghawk on 15/6/2016 at 00:05
Yeah, I enjoyed Anniversary a lot. Underworld was a mixed bag - nice visuals and much better level design than Legend, but the worst controls yet and quite brief.

So anyway, I have all TR games sitting here on my backlog and gathering dust. Normally I prefer watching movie-/playing game series in chronological order (either by publication date or internal story chronology, whichever applies more meaningfully) and don't even get me started on NOT watching TV series from the first episode! On the other hand, I've never played Caesar 1 and 2, HoMM 1 and 2 and The Settlers 1, but the next installment in each series is among my top 5 games of all time. With that in mind, which TR game should I start with, whenever I get the urge to play them?
