I love Quake 1 but I don't like the look of that mod. Didn't look like there was much stealth involved in it at all, since the player had autorun on the whole time.
Well that's the guy who made the mod playing, so it's unsurprising that he's good at it. I can assure you that the gameplay is a lot more stealthy if you're a newb. :)
It's a lot of fun and it fits the quake theme better than you'd think!

I decided to swing by and show you guys a mod for Quake (yes, Quake the first one) that was released
this year. It's stealthy and quite neat, the guy who made the mod is professional level designer Sock.
Thanks for the post, I did not expect my MOD to reach the original Thief forums! As you can tell (stealth mod) I have been a fan of the original Thief series for a long time and I have always wondered what it would be like to sneak around the Quake universe instead. The MOD features new monsters, a special AI path finding system (they will hunt you down from one side of a map to the other), new textures, models, a background story, training systems, tons of map details and a dynamic skill system.

A couple of friends did a couple of series of play through videos and they will give you a better idea of the system than my video's because I know where everything is and can run around the maps at breakneck speed.

The MOD starts with a quick map of normal Quake gameplay and then you start the stealth tutorial. Once you have completed the tutorial then you can play the extra stealth maps. (s1m1 and s1m2)
If you want to skip the quake gameplay intro, drop the console and type 'training' and you will be teleported to the training area. If you want footstep sounds, type 'feet' at the console. These commands only work if a map is loaded.
If you have any questions or feedback, please let me know. I am especially after feedback about what you did not like because this will help to improve the MOD.
Thanks

I often get asked this question, "Is your MOD like Stealth Quake" and the short answer is no. The stealth system is not about hiding in the shadows (that has been done before in Thief) the MOD is about sight and distance. The player has a cloak of invisibility (like the creature in the film Predator) that the monsters will see through if the player is too close for too long. The trick is to creep around without being noticed and either kill everything or do a ghost run. The system relies heavily on distractions and understanding how the AI see around them.
Here is an update, Knights of the Realm:

Has anyone here tried this MOD yet? Does anyone have some feedback? (good/bad/angry) Would you like to see something added? Was the stealth mechanic fun to play? I have got another version in the making featuring a ton of new content. Here is an image showing some of the new enemies and extra assets for the next release:

I'm definitely gonna check this out. Do I need Quake to play? If I have to buy one, would Quake 3 work (I play Quake Live sometimes, it would be interesting to see what Quake 3 is like online).

What on earth possessed you to think a mod for Quake 1 would work on any other Quake game?
Trance on 19/4/2013 at 10:47
He may not know that the three Quake games all run on separate engines.

The next version will work with the assets from the shareware version of Quake and comes with a custom engine. If you own a copy of Quake (available on steam) then it will work fine with the extra registered assets.
