WTF Steam? Really?
This has been happening to me for the past couple of months and man is it irritating. It slows my whole computer down (only a little, but still), the pop-up is irritating and just wft? Why? If I close a game and want to get out of Steam ASAP I don't want this nonsense.
My SSD arrives soon so maybe after the re-install/shift it won't be so annoying but at the moment... disappointed.

Does unchecking the option for that still make it pop up?

Yes.

Huh, I thought you could just disable it.
I didn't care about Cloud Synching myself, until I got my new big PC and installed Steam, and all of a sudden I could effortlessly continue from where I left off on my old laptop. woooooooooooow!

Yeah, unchecking speeds it up but I don't want/need it at all. I can live with the speed it goes at when unchecked though I suppose. It would have been nice to be told that this was implemented - I don't recall the change being announced from within Steam.

Hmmm, I am honestly a bit torn between "forced sync" issue. On one hand, it's nice to have the option, on the other, sometimes the only way to progress is to force things on people and either convert or leave some in the dust. I mean, we wouldn't even have things like Steam, Youtube, Video Streaming etc. if those applications didn't overlook 56kers and force people to push for broadband. And as shitty as it was/is for that minority, I feel the internet and technology overall is better in the end because of that.
As for cloud synching... well, now its cumbersome untrustworthy addon. But imagine a decade from now, when your c:\ drive is the same drive regardless of if you use your PC, iPHone, X360 or whatever else gets invented. No need to copy files back and forth, no need to "email" yourself stuff to access it on someone else's device, no need to make backups. Security risks aside, think of the convenience...

It only takes a couple of seconds when I exit steam usually for me. I guess there are games that use it more, for saves and stuff, right?
(incidentally, I see a lot jumping on the SSD bandwagon. It's the future, no doubt. But I do hear that they are still a bit undercooked, with a short lifespan, bad QA and occasionally error prone. But I don't know personally)

I find it incredibly useful - it means if I'm getting really into a game, I can just carry on where I left off on my lunch break at work.
