i played through it until last mission (get the last pearls together and take off for last level) so I don't know what bug you are talkin about. at least it didn't appear until now and I never heard of it, finished the game a few times on PC (retail-cd) and now on steam. if it turns up I'll post it, I will end the game before the last boss fight, it's too boring to relearn all patterns.

Arrrgh--apparently Valve broke the Steam version Opposing Force two and a half months ago and haven't released a fix for it yet. It crashes for everyone at the "We Are Not Alone" chapter, meaning the game is less than half complete.
First time I wish I had the CD version of a game instead of the Steam version. The CD version would at least let me downgrade to the non-broken game. Now we've got the broken game.

I'm pretty sure you can choose what update version you want on steam. Its somewhere around the tab where you can choose whether or not to auto update. maybe i'm wrong.

Nope. At least not for Opposing Force :(

I'm wondering about Left 4 Dead... it's 37.49 right now with savings and 50 regularly
Will it be 19.99 in 6 months? How long did it take for TF2 to drop to that price?

IIRC, TF2 was originally ~$30. You have to remember that HL2:Ep.2, TF2 and Portal had always had lower than $40-50 RRPs since they were part of the Orange Box - which originally had a RRP of $50 USD.

Get L4D immediately. In terms of bang-for-your-buck it's not worth $50 (though new content is forthcoming), it's not even quite worth $38, but it's quite the good game. Multiplayer element notwithstanding, it's a singleplayer/co-op game through-and-through. Versus mode is basically the same as singleplayer/co-op except you have the opportunity to play one of the specials.

For me L4D was absolutely worth $50 bucks. I've put more hours into it than any other game this year, actually that's last year now :p, and I'm still playing it. It might not have much quantifiable content but it has immense amounts of replayability so at this price it's a good deal.
And it certainly isn't a single player game. If you play on your own with bots you simply will not be playing the real game.

You're a bit late but thanks. :)
I don't agree that it's not the "real game" in singleplayer as I discerned no noticable difference between the bots and real people, save that the bots tended to not be idiots.
