Gonna have to disagree there. Even with my new comp, which runs fast and smooth with every program, the new Steam UI lags.
I right-click...takes a minute for the window to pop.
Properties of a game takes two minutes.
Constantly crashes - checked for updates, says it is up to date.
TF2 is in a constant "Update Paused" state. Tried to delete/reinstall. Deleted local content, but can't reinstall cause it still says "Update Paused".
Takes forever to long in sometimes, or longs in fast and takes forever to load, all I see is this ghost outline of the box where steam is suppose to be for 5 minutes..then it will load. But I better wait 5 more minutes cause if I click it too soon it WILL crash.
Damn, I feel like they threw out some crap Alpha version instead of doing any work on it. Not my comp either. Everything else runs fine.

What the fuck? Are you running on a Pentium 2 or something?

I have to chip in here and say that Steam runs a lot better on my computer now than it used to. It also reacts better if the network isn't available on start-up, instead of running its process without the UI and requiring me to kill it in Task Manager then restart.

Nah..Running a Quad core AMD Phenom II....Runs great for everything....except steam now...
Going to try deleting and reinstalling steam...maybe something just went screwy while I was patching to the new update or something.
Of course, doing so will delete all my installed games, but whatever..

I recommend moving your steamapps folder before you do this. Then you can avoid the massive redownload (especially if you have limited bandwidth).

Wish I had read your post before I did it. It seems obvious now that I've read your post, but it never really crossed my mind before. Oh well...
Steam is running much smoother now. And TF2 is reinstalled and running fine.
Ironically, with all my games now deleted (and my family's home has only a 1.5 mbps connection), I now have an excuse to reinstall KOTOR 2 and give the Restored Content Mod a try.

Stupid Valve hiding the download link on the about page. I had to pretend to download the Torchlight demo to get it.
