Only a dickhead would knowingly resell used games that had one-time activations, especially to those who were unaware of the issue.
You just revealed your true nature mate and it is totally repugnant.
Yep, I'm an evil person for exercising my right to first sale and not helping Valve get paid via a brand-new sale. If Valve decides not to allow someone to use their new game, that's called bad business and IS NOT MY PROBLEM.
For the record, other people sell their used copies too:

Sure is righteous indignation in here.

Either they're unaware of the no-carry-over rule or they're perfectly aware of it which makes them dickheads preying on people. Either way, I wouldn't buy a used copy of HL2.

Ahh yes, but how can one consider individuals exercising their rights to be dickheads? It seems wrong, especially when the corporation on the other end is trying to overstep their bounds by applying BS restrictions to a product that was sold in a store.

It very easy when the person knows damn well it's not cut and dried. Taking someones money for something you know damn well won't work is flat out fraud, and hiding behind anti-corporate rhetoric doesn't make you any less of a first class asshole.
If you want to fight the power, get a goddamned lawyer. You're just being a thief.

I'm not saying you shouldn't tell the buyer that they may have trouble re-activating the game... Hell, I look forward to giving the publishers hell when I pick up a used copy of GTA4 and they try to get out of activating it for me. This will be worth the $15 alone.

@The Phat, natch.
Assholish, possibly. Personally I wouldn't argue against it, though the case for FSD applying on a store purchased game is pretty strong.
But it's definitively not theft and near definitively not fraud. You're more likely to get done for libel for suggesting they are then he would be for fraud (lol theft rofl haha) for reselling a Valve game.
Valve Defence Squad is GO!

You're right, it's not fraud.
Telling people half truths and taking their money to push your own agenda is properly called politics.
Either way, it's still evil.
