It's a good start. I haven't managed to grab a single A on any of the Hell dark worlds yet. I can't even managed to get one on the first level in the light world...which was the level that was pissing me off so much. To get it, you have to get up to a certain point before one of the moving saw blades get in your way, forcing you to wait it out. You have to jump underneath it before it hits you, then hit this one tiny space right below another saw blade up above it, catapult yourself up above that to the left, then make a long jump to the right.
I can get to the point right before the long jump. I'd hit it every time, but instead of jumping, my guy would slide up the wall from the momentum, then just fall into the sawblades below. Having that happen each and every time for 20 something odd tries just...GWAAAAAAAHHH. Pissed me off.
edit: I DID IT, YOU SON OF A BITCH GAME!

The Wonderful End Of The World

Wonderful End of the World demo is ACE. I had a blast, and level 2 is a love letter to retro gaming.

TWEOTW played exactly the way I wished that the Katamari games would have played. It's a shame there isn't more of it (it's a much smaller game than the Katamaris), but it certainly has some lovely variety. That second level was the reason I plonked down the dollars after playing the demo.

And the damage was:
* Alpha Protocol
* Risen
* The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom
* Indie 2D Pack:
* Bullet Candy
* Super Laser Racer
* Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
* VVVVVV
* Galcon Fusion
* Super Meat Boy
* Neverwinter Nights 2 Platinum
Could have been a lot worse. The only thing that held me back on quite a lot of purchases was the fact that my gaming computer's broken and I literally wouldn't be able to play them. Some other day, Mirror's Edge... and Burnout Paradise... and L4D2... and everything else on my wishlist...

Mirror's Edge seems to be going for a coke and a smile every other month these days, so you're probably alright there.

L4D2 goes for cheapies every so often too.

Do you people think I should get Far Cry 2: Fortune's Edition for the PC? I already have it for the PS3, but I hate the slow pace and the insta-respawning checkpoints, and the added irritation trundling around with the analogue sticks causes.
Far Cry 2 is very repetitive, so unless you like the core gameplay (including a slow pace and checkpoints that get re-manned the moment you're out of sight) it's not for you. Personally, I loved the heck out of
most of that game. But you certainly do knock over (or just bull through) an ungodly number of checkpoints.

Hey thanks, but you're too late. I noticed they were bundling the original Far Cry with it for $7 so I bought it.
To be fair, I do have some perspective on the game because I reached the second map on the PS3 (which is an achievement) and posted a couple long rambling stories about the nature of companions; it's just that the sale caught me at exactly the wrong price point. The price was right, but the decidedly non-cathartic gameplay (read: this isn't out and out fun to play) made me baulk at the thought of re-buying it. But at least on the PC, I won't be cursing and swearing as much due to the dead-zone and irritatingly weighty controls on the PS3. (Although I've heard that the 'weightiness' is still there to an extent on the PC -- that true?)
Pyrian on 6/1/2011 at 20:37
I don't know about "weighty" per se but I can say the controls took a bit of getting used to. The boats and especially the hanggliders lag your input.
I actually found the basic gameplay a lot of fun. I loved the heck out of the minimalist UI and "buddy" vita chamber approach. Carefully planning a mission, complete with weapon loadout, approaches, and so on, and then completing it with a single, silenced dart from the night, disappearing into the brush as angry guards scoured the countryside? Yeah, it was a long, slow slog, but I enjoyed the vast majority of it.
The plot is retarded in places, and not nearly as flexible as the open-world design, dialog, and mission options make it seem. Still got some interesting twists.
