wtf are you talking about ?
you describe a "manual", "self-taught", unsupported backup version for steam and I describe THE official supported backup solution for steam and you call it "misinformed" bullshit........
Hello, good morning, welcome to: "MAYBE THINK A LITTLE" followed by "EVA SHOULD READ IT AGAIN"
and I thought I had trouble with english

Learn how to read, you dumb fuck.

The only usefulness of the client's in-built backup facility is providing a dead simple disc-spanning solution, that doesn't waste any room on writeable media. Else nothing beats copy and pasting.
These backups will restore on any PC as long as that person has the backed up games tied to their account.Nothing is dependent on directory structure with the native backup solution. My friend could have Steam installed to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\ on his PC, whilst I'm using H:\Games\Steam\. Hardware configurations don't make any difference either.

It's not actually required on the copy and paste method either. Just drop the folder into the steamapps, and you're done.

eva, I know the copy/paste thing and use it myself, the problem I have came from thinking it's unsupported:
wow, I would have needed that link a few months ago. Fkn steamsupport REFUSED to help me out with RogueTrooper backup BECAUSE I did the copy/paste thing and they said I have to reinstall it or use the backup feature. those assholes. I take it back, it seems supported, it IS the better solution and I shut up now.

Forever? That would be a great Xmas present to us all.
When you contacted them were you frothing? Cause if I were tech support I'd try piss you off too.

Damn it I was hoping for more mothra/Eva brawling. The entertainment level of this thread just fell from incredibly hot to lukewarm.

That sounds like you were unfortunate enough to a tech support that took the easy option.
Out of interest, what error did you get with Rogue Trooper? Did Steam fail to recognise the game as being installed or did it refuse to launch it?
mothra on 30/12/2009 at 16:49
it mixed up the languages. if I install it in english, which is my default language, the menues were garbled, you couldn't use any keyinputs, only mouse and it still ran in german language. when switching to german everything worked but that was not the way I wanna play the game. I backuped the game after buying it but never started it. after installing the backup steam said it's because I used copy/paste and I have to reinstall. which did not solve the problem so I actually got the game refunded. No, I was not "frothing", support bounced me back to Eidos and Eidos back to steam and steam gave in in the end. so actually not a bad case but I'm surprised the support guy didn't know about the copy/paste.
UPDATE: max payne 1+2 for 3,74€, I'm so getting it again and will replay max payne2 immediately :)

I got a guy who wouldn't help me because I was using PeerGuardian.
Because a game kept crashing. Yeah.
