Oh SNAP! Half Life Source is 2$? I have wanted that for years, but it was just too expensive for what it was.
edit. DONE!!! Thanks for the heads-up, EvaUnit. I forgot to re-check the sale today.

I don't know, I think I'll just wait for Black Mesa.

good luck with that
In all seriousness though, there's not much point to buying HL:S at all if you have the original GoldSrc version (outside of wanting HL1 assets for Garry's Mod). There's the Havok physics anomalies occasionally when doing shit like trying to stack crates and it feels like you're playing HL2 with powered sprint permanently on - the player movement is way faster than in vanilla GoldSrc HL1, it makes doing some platforming sections trickier for sure.
Also HL:S misses some nice details from the original, like when a group of scientists and/or Barney's start having conversations without player involvement.
The improved water effects and added HDR do look fairly nice though. Also it is satisfying seeing the ragdoll of a HECU grunt go flying when I nail him with a rifle grenade.
I bought HL:S for 66% off a few months ago and it's an interesting trip for sure, but could never justify ever paying more than that for what is essentially a game I already own sloppily copy and pasted into a new engine, minus some of minor nuances that added to the overall original experience.

I know, right? Things seem to be pointing towards a 2010 release, though.

Are you talking about when you tap a crate and it goes flying across the room? If so, the original had that, too.

Oh my, more arse kicking 24h deals today.
Mass Effect - $5 USD - 75% off
Doom complete pack - $13.59 - 66% off
Portal - $5 - 75% off
Trial 2: Second Edition - $2.50 - 75% off
Sam & Max Complete (all seasons) - $15 - 75% off
Also Devil May Cry 4 for $22.50 (25% off), not a very good deal at all. You can highly likely get the boxed copy for much cheaper these days.
I'm buying Mass Effect on Steam just to have a SecuROM-less (sans the limited activations) copy.

What's the general opinion of the Sam n Max Episodes series? I'm tempted at that price, but haven't kept up with how the episodes have been received... Thoughts?
gunsmoke on 1/1/2010 at 21:28
goddamnit steam.
Anyway, I couldn't pass up $5 for Mass Effect. Good thing I don't have a bandwidth cap or I'd be up the same creek as Matthew...

Honestly, I think they are, on the whole, just as good as Sam & Max Hit the Road (and considerably better than Telltale's efforts at Wallace & Gromit/Monkey Island). The series improves over time, the art design is fantastic, and the writing is charming. For $15 it's a steal.

yeah, 2nd season is a full onslaught of winner episodes, 1st season is half/half. awesome price.
