Steam sharing beta. Exactly what it says on the tin - by Phatose

I've been seeing a lot of comments in various places about 'look how many times he has to pick up his thumb to make a 180 in the Portal 2 segment!' But they seem to completely ignore that later in the Portal 2 segment he's able to turn around completely almost instantly with a single quick flick across the pad. It even shows some inertia, continuing to turn even after the thumb has been lifted, so I'd guess it'll feel much more like using a trackball in practice.
I'm looking forward to seeing additional demos, and hopefully eventually ones with a prototype with the touchscreen.

Shooters look to be pretty decent, offering up a nice blend between a mouse and analog stick. I'm not so sure about point 'n click games, though. Civ V and Papers, Please looked like they controlled alright, but I dunno if they'll be as comfortable to play with this as they are with a keyboard and mouse.
tbh, I think it probably only needs to be better than keyboard and mouse on a sofa where keyboard and mouse don't work terribly terribly well. (or be better than a controller). (0r better than a controller or a keyboard and mouse while donning one of those VR headsets we'll be wearing in the future.)
Some stuff is just going to be better sat at a desk. But if it's "good enough" with a steam stick then, well, maybe the sofa is more comfy...

So, there's the rub. I didn't really expect anything super permissive, or else you'd have communities springing up only to timeshare libraries.
They said it was for friends and family, and then implemented a cunning way to enforce that.

That actually sounds like exactly what I wanted it to be. I don't see the "fail". I'm already sharing my credentials with my brother and it gets quite cumbersome when we both want to play a game on my account so that sounds like the perfect solution.
I never expected this to be a free-for-all sharing-fest with everyone in my friends list. That would make no sense.

Yeh true, we have 3 different steam accounts in my household with different games on them, thats exactly how I was envisaging using steam sharing.

Not one of the better controllers I've seen, so glad to see it was just an experiment.

I'm surprised, I thought they were sticking with that design. Then again, it was after all just a prototype or beta version of the controller that's been shown thus far. I guess they really took the feedback they got to heart, or they decided the touchpads weren't good enough for all situations.
