Steam sharing beta. Exactly what it says on the tin - by Phatose

If you've got a friend on the other side of the world you could make it work reasonably well. So if any Aussies wanna borrow Euro Truck Simulator 2, hit me up!

Closed beta atm, but I could actually see this work too, with the TTLG kru. Quite a few people here in opposite time zones, so while Henke is at work during the day (or whatever crazy shit he gets up to), I could be playing his copy of Bioshock Infinite, or yes even Euro truck simulator, and vice versa.

So e.g. PigLick could be my Steam account's Tyler Durden?

Sounds pretty dumb to me. I'm on Steam most nights so that effectively means I could never lend any of my friends anything as they play at the same time. If you could create a subset of your library for sharing i.e games I am not playing right now, then I could see it working but as it stands now it's almost completely useless.
I thought it only booted you for playing the same game, not being on the same account?

So, Steam is now where the Xbox One was before it turned 180.

Forward progress, how does it work

Shhhh. Don't get in the way of a relieving rant.

Playing from the same library. So if you're logged in but aren't playing any games, then somebody else can play from your library. As soon as you start playing ANY game, that person will get kicked out.

Yeah, my initial impression was that the sharing would work as you described, froghawk, but then I read a little closer. Part of me still thinks that it must be a reading comprehension fail on part because it just seems like such a weird way to do it. (Although henke's suggestion that it could work well for friends on the other side of the globe is a sound one)

There's a lot of games, particularly Indie ones, that once downloaded can be launched outside of Steam. I can see this being harmful to those titles.
