Question: Is it possible to buy a gift for a friend through the steam mobile app?
I've only used it a couple times for myself and can't recall if I was given an option at checkout.
(Damn steam events with ungodly hour flash-deal cycles)
ANSWER: Yes.
Also, … is Witcher 2 that much of a big improvement over the first? Cuz I took a break from the first game somewhere in chapter 2 and never came back … :bored:

It's not bad, but it's kind of mediocre imho. The combat is your standard gamepad-oriented melee hack-and-roll affair but not nearly as polished as many other games that focus on that. The story is good, but occasionally wanders into your standard fantasy "why am I supposed to give a shit about all of these generic fantasy sounding things" moments. Geralt is a strong enough character that it doesn't have too many of those moments, but it still happens. There isn't quite as much reactivity to the story as in the first game, but it still gives you some fairly hard choices with far-reaching consequences. The character-build system is similar to Witcher 1 IIRC, you can focus on swordplay or magic or alchemy and it seems balanced enough to make each build playable if you stick to a skill tree. The biggest let down for me, really, was the combat. It just feels kind of clunky. Then again, that was the weakest part of the first game too. The writing is often crude and humorous, although it seems a bit less overtly sexist than the first game. I dunno, I'd recommend it over most dark fantasy CRPG's but there are games with better combat (Dark Souls, Ninja Blade, Darksiders, etc) and reactive-style games with better writing (anything by Obsidian). If you've already played all the good gamepad-oriented hack-and-slash games and all of the Obsidian RPG's then I'd say go for it, it's probably the next best thing.

If I didn't have a year's backlog of games waiting, … I'd buy it.
If I had started using up some
steam-wallet-windfall, … I'd not be tempted.

Cuz I took a break from the first game somewhere in chapter 2 and never came back … :bored:I also took a break from The Witcher early on and never came back. Then I played Witcher 2 and took a break early on... and never came back. The sequel
was better though.

To Metro or not to Metro? -40%. It's not going to be any cheaper, is it?

Both games are pretty boring for the first 5-6 hours and get significantly better after that.

What Moyer said. The Witcher games tend to start out (real) slow, but get crazier the farther you get into them.

Last year the pattern seemed to be that they would come in lower first and the come back later at a higher price (lower discount) to catch all those undecideds on the second go.
(Some bias here. I've seen supermarkets do exactly this sort of thing. Wouldn't surprise me if steam had no real pattern so no one can figure it out like I am attempting to)
