"Great game, I better stop playing it"
This is why old people shouldn't be allowed to play videogames

It took awhile for Alan Wake to grab me, but the last half of the game including the DLC was fantastic. Each episode is better than the last, which is pretty rare with the way most games try to knock you off your feet in the first hour then suck mightily.

I'm glad that my deficit of video memory isn't making Wake unplayable, although considering that I've had no trouble with Skyrim, GTA IV seems to be a computer-eating beast even though it's been around for four years. Apparently it can't find enough room to load detail textures on buildings across the street. It reminds me of trying to play GTA3 on my Voodoo 3 3000 ten years ago and being rather disappointed.
Returning to Alan for a bit, I do feel it's a bit like a "scary Max Payne", taking the weird dream sequences and stretching them out. It also has the most novel use of a flashlight in a game that I have seen. I have certainly never been so glad to find spare batteries...

Start with Ocarina of Time, that's the easiest one to get into. There's also Link to the Past (which OoT is just a rehash of) but I personally hate that game so I won't recommend it.
Wait, refresh my memory: why do you hate one of the greatest games ever made?

Because it's not? LttP is extremely overrated. The gameplay is annoying, the music is tinny and annoying, and it's spent 20 years getting put on a pedestal it doesn't deserve while Link's Awakening and to a lesser extent Majora's Mask are ignored.
Aja on 15/7/2012 at 16:59
That doesn't really make sense, considering that the gameplay in Link's Awakening is basically the same as Link to the Past, and the music is inarguably tinnier (I think it's also a great game, btw). Maybe your emulator is bad.

sigh
No. It's not the emulator, especially considering A) I have the original cartridge somewhere and B) it's sounded the same across THREE separate SNES emulators over 10 years as well as Virtual Console and even the damn songs on Youtube are the same. The problem is that the game came out at the very beginning of the SNES lifecycle, and the instrumentation uses far too much brass. Super Mario World has a similar sound. Unfortunately that brassy sound just comes off as tinny, and adding insult to injury the Dark World dungeon theme isn't half as interesting as the Light World dungeon theme yet you get to hear it like, 7 or 8 times. If you think Gameboy music is tinny you've got dicks in your ears.
And the gameplay in LA isn't like LttP at all. It feels closer to that of the original LoZ, but certain things like the swordplay have been tweaked a bit. It also ditches the Light World/Dark World bullshit which has always felt like unnecessary padding (Metroid Prime 2 does this too and I hate it.)

Help me out here TTLG: Serious Sam 3, or The Darkness 2. Which one do I buy?
Good deals today overall. Just bought The Walking Dead and MS Flight DLC collection.

Good year for savings so far. Not a single thing I particularly want.
