Help me out here TTLG: Serious Sam 3, or The Darkness 2. Which one do I buy?
Sam 3.
Though, admittedly, I haven't tried The Darkness 2.

Don't. Play the first one not the second. They removed everything that made the first game so kickass, and turned it into a generic FPS.

Really? Because I tried the Darkness 2 demo and found that they had refined the gameplay-elements from the first game and added more stuff on top. What did they remove exactly? The feature-length movies you could watch on in-game TVs? Because I think I can live without those.
I asked the RPS forumdwellers which game I should buy as well and got a great resonse from someone called LTK:

Serious Sam 3 is a near-constant adrenaline rush with over-the-top weapons, enemies, number of enemies, carnage, and ham. The greatest thing about it is the challenge of pitting one badass motherfucker against an interstellar army of monstrosities. Also the greatest thing is putting the last of many, many bullets in the last of many, many enemies and listening to the following silence of the blood-soaked battlefield, and thinking "I seriously just did that."
The Darkness 2 is a comic-book gore-tastic power fantasy that lets you murder mobsters and cultists in increasingly elaborate and creative ways with either a pair of demonic tentacles or by dual-wielding submachine guns, or all four. The greatest thing about it is not the aforementioned murder-palooza, but the fact that the game is self-conscious enough that it regularly asks you "Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?"
If you ask me, the choice comes down to whether you prefer your murderfest with atmosphere and story (Darkness 2) or its challenge and arcade-ness (Serious Sam 3).
Though that doesn't exactly help me make my mind up. They still both sound pretty good. Perhaps I'll just get both.

yeh gta4 is badly optimised i think, my pc runs hot as fuck when I play it for more than an hour or so.
It wasn't too bad once I took notice of the resource usage thing in video settings. Just had to have crap quality shadows at 800 by 600. If only I'd got the higher end graphics option in the Macbook Pro...

You've really never played Zelda?
Surely that applies to (at
minimum) everyone who never used a Nintendo console/emulator? I know Nintendo is popular and all, but I'm pretty sure that's still a very large set of people.

Alrighty, I got Serious Sam 3: Best Friend Ever. The Darkness 2 honestly seems like more my thing but I've bought so many grimdark games already, something bright and simple might be a nice change.
Also bought Price of Persia: The Forgotten Sands. Holy crap, I've spent over 90 bucks already. I think the most I ever spent in earlier sales was 70. Need to start slowing down now, luckily I think I've already bought most of the things I want. Though if Jagged Alliance:BIA or Witcher 2 comes up cheap I might have to get those too.

Just got Mass Effect 2. It is really good (I'm enjoying it way more than I thought it would), but wow did someone shit the bed in terms of reasonable representation of girls. The first one impressed me with quite how normal and practical (relatively) the majority of the female crew looked. Now half my team goes into battle either wearing high heels and special butt-armour, chest-plates split to the navel, or is literally half naked. The only normally dressed female NPCs on the normandy are, so far, the fucking hippy at the desk and the doctor. What happened, did someone scrawl 'nb more boners' on the design doc while the rest of the team was at lunch? It's really off-putting.

I do like Miranda's thigh high boots, but maybe she should save them for nights out in Newcastle. Definitely not a help in a firefight. Where's the body armour for the female crew?
She's genetically engineered so I guess she has an excuse for the backside.
But not the boots.
Jack's outfit is equally ridiculous in ME3, just in case you were getting your hopes up of the wardrobe department improving.
