So with the summer sale + steam introducing trading cards recently a fair few people (who play games on steam) are getting a whole heap of cards both through playing games and through buying them.
I'm not sure if people here were interested in doing trades of cards, but I thought meh why not start up a thread in case there were some people interested in doing it, and I for one would prefer to only trade with people from around here + systemshock.org rather than the masses on the steam forums.
So basing this off what I have seen from how people on the steam forums simply say what you have and/or what your looking to trade + what your looking for.
So to start off this is my current inventory:

And the following are my cards that I'd be happy to trade for whatever:
The Walking Dead* No Time Left (2 cards)
Football Manager 2013* Steam Summersale Getaway Trading Card
Torchlight 2* Steam Summersale Getaway Trading Card
Tomb Raider* Steam Summersale Getaway Trading Card
Now in particular I'd love to get some of the System Shock 2 trading cards which recently came out. But anythings fine aslong as I don't have it honestly. Send me a PM here if you want to trade for whatever aslong as it's in the duplicates list. The rest I want to keep.
Otherwise feel free to post your cards + what your looking for etc.

So you just get these for various Steam actions then? Mostly from playing, some probably from buying or doing other Steam related things like updating a profile, commenting on a friend's picture etc...?
If so I'll wait and see what my usual Steam use earns me and then figure out where I want to trade from/to.

From what I've seen so far, you get them via buying games + through games which have support for the cards.
For example I got 2 cards from playing The Walking Dead Season 1 this week. The rest I got all through buying games that were featured in the summer sale.

What the fuck are these things and can you spend them on games or something?

I'm planning to hold onto the summer sale cards and see how much the crazies with too much money are willing to pay for them by next year. That's assuming that they're only dropped during the sale, are destroyed when turned into a badge, and that they don't expire past the sale.

Each participating game has a "set" of cards. You start with an amount of "drops" equal to half the size of the "set" (rounded up), you earn drops by spending time in the game. For the Steam Sale you get badges for spending money and voting on the community deal.
If you manage to get a full set (by trading) you get to craft a Steam badge (which may give you some other reward). Cards can be put up on the Steam Marketplace, which can get you a bit of cash for your Steam Wallet if you don't want to craft the badges yourself. Once a badge has been crafted, a random eligible person gets a booster pack.
To get a more complete overview you should check the Badges section of Steam.

So if Steam becomes a game, can we get a DRM-free version from GOG?
Or maybe you can get a badge for buying Steam from GMG or something.
I feel dizzy.

If you sell them on the market you can get some change for it, which you can use to spend on games. I had four card compatible games, and made ~3 euros on them, which I used to buy System Shock 2. No real money in that equation anywhere. Given the
huge colossal galaxy sized backlogs some of you have, you could make 20+ money by launching games, letting them run in the background and selling the dropped cards on the market.
EDIT: That is if you don't risk waiting with them after the sale, for possible more moneyz.

I still don't get it. I've got some cards from playing Company of Heroes 2 single player.
What are Steam Badges?
WHAT IS THE POINT OF ALL OF THIS?

Cheers folks. Sounds... monumentally awful.

My thoughts exactly. How can steam get on steam without having to go through greenlight like everyone else! It's a disgrace.
I suppose we should enjoy it while it lasts before the servers are ground into dust by Chinese card farmers.
