She literally buys the games just to get the badges, and then goes back to TF2. I'm not going to judge anyone, but this has got to be one of the most pointless exercises ever. Valve is proving you can make money from absolutely nothing. Amazing.

The trade with Neb, crafting the summer badge, landed me a bag emoticon and "Summer Getaway Map" background, wtf that is. Well, that was a waste.

Got a Dead Island Riptide Foil card from voting for the community choice. Turns out the foils are going for ~ ten times the regular Summer Getaway cards on the market. Sold it for ~1.40 and it went almost instantly. Totally crazypants.
The whole thing with tying cards to purchases is pretty evil, and knowingly so. Valve is well aware of the kind of crazy compulsion loops that gamification creates, and they've literally gamified buying games in this sale. I imagine some small piece of Gabe's soul withers and flakes away every time someone spends real money on a Summer Getaway card.
If I weren't myself a greedy and lazy person, I would be totally tempted to try to crash the market by selling high value cards for nothing. I'd need a lot of them to do it, though.

Why spend $10 on a game to get a card when you can go on the steam marketplace and buy the non-foil versions for 10 cents? I'm going to try to trade my way as far as I can towards getting a 5th level summersale badge, but after that I'll probably just drop $3 or whatever and get all the cards I need.
