I'm just saying if he's opening up the wallet anyway, surely he can find another measly 5 bucks to join up with our little celebration. Then again, it's not my job to spend other people's money.
That
would be a pretty kickass job though...
I'm saying that my bank card is maxed from Christmas, and I wasn't 100% sure I was going to get paid before the holiday. I didn't, btw. So, if and when my boss gets around to taking care of me, I'll pop a look at a few wishlists.

Grabbed Saints Row 4 since it's currently 40% off.

Guacamelee luckily got the Vote for Community deal, so grabbed that at 75% off.

Dark Souls is on sale. 80% discount, price is 6 euros. 5 Hours left.
I still wonder if I should buy it.
a) Will it be playable with my setup ? (Trackball for mouselook, joystick for movement, 40 buttons (2x20) on the joystick for abilities, keyboard for typing text).
b) Will I be able to enjoy the full game without getting ganked ? (You need to play human or hollow mode (forgot which one) to prevent gankers coming in your wold. Would that limit my play ? Would it make it harder ?)
c) Will I have time to actually play this ?
d) Is there a way to run this game (and play co-op) without GfWL ? If it requires GfWL (and not a replacement dll) then I will not buy it. No GwWL on my machine.

Yes, you should buy it.
a) I would definitely recommend a gamepad for Dark Souls. I can't answer your question because I can't even imagine what your setup is like in practice.
b) I don't know if I'm missing something obvious, but I've played the game for 100+ hours, I've played a lot of that in Human form, yet no one has ever invaded my world (except for the scripted NPC invasions).
c) You can play the game for fifteen minutes at a time, or six hours at a time, it doesn't really matter. I wouldn't recommend having long breaks (more than a few weeks) between your gaming sessions though, because it's kinda important to remember what the hell you were supposed to be doing next, as there's no quest log or anything in this game.
d) ugh... GfWL. I thought that it's not as bad as everyone claims it to be... but it's even worse. You can play the game without GfWL in offline mode, but then you naturally can't play co-op. But if you start your game in offline mode, don't make the same mistake as I did and decide to create an account on GfWL after playing the game for a while - GfWL will conveniently decide to delete your save data on your behalf. (Well, it didn't actually delete anything, but my offline character apparently wasn't compatible anymore, and I found no way to revert back to playing in the offline mode. That's how I lost my first character and 40+ hours of gameplay.) And the goddamn thing throws me out of the game at least once during every single gaming session.
I don't know anything about the replacement dll thing that you mention, I doubt that it works, but let me know if it does! :p

Thanks for the reply.
It is my personal rule of thumb to not buy stuff, when there is little chance I'll actually use it. E.g. just because it's on sale. I read about gamers that have a backlog of 200 unplayed games that they paid for. I'd say they are doing something wrong.
The reason I might not have time is that I might play a little WoW (see Pandaria), want to replay T1G before T4 is released, play the last Dishonored DLC, and got a few more small games lined up. I have used my setup (trackball+joystick) for all my games (FPS, RPG, MMOs) since 1999. I will not play a game that requires me to play with another input device.
When I say I won't do GfWL, it means I will not even install the software. So it seems you can't play coop without GfWL. Many years ago, when I played Fallout3, that game required GfWL. There was a gwfl.dll file (or something alike) that you could drop in, in stead of installing the GfWL-pack that came with FO3. And that just worked. I assume such tools still exist, and could work with DS.
I hope DS2 will be good. With just Steam, in stead of GfWL. And decent mouse+wasd support. I will probably wait for DS2 then.
I used to do a lot of soloing of old raid-content in WoW, and I loved the atmosphere of wandering around alone in areas that you knew were very dangerous (coming back alone to areas where you used to wipe with 25-man groups, even when 10 levels higher, gives some nice immersion). I think DS1 could give me that same vibe. DS1 looks so good, but at the same time, seems to have so many shortcomings. Let's hope it will all be fixed in DS2.
Edit: bought the game anyway. Principles don't mean anything if it's only 6 euros to violate them. :)

The shortcomings are all superficial stuff. Yeah, it's as literal a console port as you can get, with all the PC stuff being half-assed in at best. But it's perfectly stable, runs well, and there are easy to apply patches that fix the resolution and mouse issues. And yeah, GFWL is so horrible, it makes my teeth hurt just thinking about it. But you can always buy it, then get a crack to remove it.
DS2 will fix all those issues, since it's a PC game being downported to the consoles this go-round, instead of vice versa. But DS1 is so good, it's worth putting up with a few of the headaches on the front end to get to play it.

It's the last day of the sale, pretty much everything except the stuff in the last daily sale have gone back to normal prices. The Bureau is -75% off tho, even though it's not advertised on the front page.
Hmm, I think I'll make Brigmore Witches the last things I get in this sale.
Renault on 2/1/2014 at 21:06
Yes, in all the confusion I forgot to buy myself something for Xmas. Brigmore is only 5 bucks right now, and all the Skyrim DLC is 50% off too.
And FYI, the sale is still on through tomorrow (1/3), not today.
