Hi!
What would you think of a patch that would store ALL unused equipment Garrett used a mission for the next one? It is annoying when you didn't use a gas arrow for example, and cannot use it in the next mission.

It's retarded. It would totally unbalance the game (that is, Thief I or II).
I'd suggest playing Thief Deadly Shadows if equipment retention is something you are fond of.

Exactly, the game tools were balanced that way for a purpose.

All of Garrett's equipment is leased; you break it, you bought it.
No one who has to resort to thievery can afford such prices.

In most cases with Thief, one mission doesn't follow on directly from another. Well it's not explicitly stated that it does, so one must assume Garrett has to go home occasionally. If equipment loss bothers you, just imagine that between missions, Garrett had to use up his supplies for some other purpose.
e.g. in a lot of missions the objective is to get back to the streets, but who's to say that just around the corner from the ending point, the steets aren't swarming with bluecoats?

The problem with retention is that it encourages you to hoard. This is how I ended up playing TDS, so that by the end of the game I had about 30 gas arrows, 60 flash bombs and 100 broadheads. Made the last levels very easy, but doesn't help much with the earlier ones.
Dussander on 2/3/2006 at 20:22
You wouldn't of had that much; the gas arrow limit is 5, the flashbomb limit is 20 and the broadhead arrow limit is 30.

I would rather time be spent on other patches. BTW, get a tweaker if you want your favorite weapons and equipment and want to test or cheat.

There is a program available to remove those limits. I don't see the point of having those limits if all it results in is masses of unspendable cash.

ya, kinda reminds me of when i first heard about T3, from what i heard, it was supposed to be kinda like GTA mixed in with Thief (about a ratio of 4 parts Thief to 1 part GTA), but, even with the hacks, you still end up with a hoard of inevitably unspendable money. i think maybe some1 might b able to make a San Andreas 'Thief-esque' mod for the PC. That way, you'd have a few more things to spend your money on, and a bigger map. but, equipment retention patches in T1/T2 would seriously unbalance the game, making it far too easy for those people like me who love to explore and find everything humanly possible in a single level before completing it, and inevitably, making the game rather boring.
