I was thinking as someone mentioned Angelwatch... how many places and people would still be around after TDS?
To start, would there be anything left of the Mechanists? Angelwatch, the robots (eugh), those rotating heads... would they still be around? Gosh, I hope not...
What ever happened to Angelwatch, anyway?
Will there be any mention of Viktoria? (I miss her...) Will The Trickster still be a topic of discussion? Will Pagans still be hiding in the city? (Risky, that is...)
What will become of the Keeper Library? Will it just be ruins? What about the living statues? They've akk been "deactivated", but will anyone still remember them? (I know I would...)
These aren't really questions I need answered, but just stuff I'm curious about...
Oh, I almost forgot, after numerous head injuries at my hand, will Benny and his bud be back?
To add a thought, I think including too many story elements from the past could blotch put a new story to latch on to. Maybe half that stuff should never be mentioned, or maybe just hinted at, a little scrap from the past.

we dont even know if thief 4 is actually going to follow on from thief 3, the rumour is that its going to get modernised and so the areas in the previous games wont exist anymore.
And if they did they would be deep under the city,eg take a moden city, the remains of the previous cities are still there, under the current buildings.

Judging by DS, no.

The Hammers probably torched the place or else took over it.

Viki, hopefully. The Trickster, maybe. The Pagans definitely.

The role of the Keepers and their stuff is a major unknown to me, only time and Rene will tell.

I hope so. Benny is essential to Thief.
@belboz- Incorrect. That was an old concept for T4. It's a whole new game now and it will be whatever EM chooses to make it.

What?!? Are you serious?

Don't believe these deserters. They do these mental gymnasticts to embend their own lies into their minds so that they believe them themselves. Even the rumor that Garrett couldn't be in T4 is pretty much ridiculous in the same way. Remember, "faith" is just lies that have been repeated long enough.

Well, that was very... deep. Thank you for that, Platinumoxicity.
As Stath said, that was the old game, but it (thankfully) fell apart.
Thanks, Stath! I hope they did torch Angelwatch, but at the same time, I knida miss it...
I wonder what will happen with that Pagan vs. Hammers thing. I suppose the actual fighting will have stopped due to the return of the artifacts...
Speaking of that, is there still an eye hanging out in the fountain?

In Thief 3 Garrett says: Hmmm, the pagans are preparing for war.
It would be nice to see that war (to who? where?) as a sidestory in THief 4.

I assumed that was because of the artifact, but now I see that would've been a time warp...
I guess it would be against the Hammers, as it appeared to be at the end of TDS. It would be weird for this to not be present.
Oi, thanks for bringing it up!

Links please. I haven't read anything that substantiates your statements; anyone else?
The most recent article I've read says:
"The setting, the character, the story, the features - anything related to the actual content of the game, we cannot discuss for now. What I can say is that people are going to be very happily surprised and impressed. I think that we've put our finger on a number of things. Innovation and originality will be important, and I think it's going to serve this great franchise very well."
Our main goal is that the essence and the spirit of these two franchises are as good now as ever before," he added. "Now we need to bring them to the highest level of technology, the highest level of design - the characters are very important, the story is important; we recognise all that, and a good game remains a good game if it's made accordingly."
