There is some strange bug in "Captain of the Guard" that I want to consider as an unwanted feature. This bug is a bit complicate to declare...

When I install "Captain of the Guard" after I have played another fan mission and then I play "Captain of the Guard" and I do NOT set the difficultly then it should start in difficultly Normal, however it starts with a difficultly that is ever harder then the difficultly "Nightmare" which means "Expert": I am then confronted by some haunts just from the start. So it ends up with a skull (game over) within one or two minutes, or so. When I then click on "Replay" it starts with difficultly "normal" as it should (no haunts in the first 5 minutes).

(However today I couldn't reproduce this behaviour. Normally it is always when I have played another fan mission before this one.)

Any ideas on this behaviour?
(I don't know why this doesn't function today.)

I use DarkLoader v4.3, and actually I have 845 fan missions in it.
I use Thief II version 1.18 (English version, from the Thief-Package, bought and downloaded from Steam), no Patches, no DarkMod.

There is actually another problem in Thief Gold, and in Thief 2: The gamma setting doesn't function. But this doesn't have anything to do with this mission as this is also in the original game AND in all fan missions.

Also, I want to inform you that "Captain of the Guard" is my most-loved fan mission. I have the plan to learn DromEd, and then I want to change parts of this mission if I can do it, I have some ideas...

NB: How did you like "Captain of the Guards"?

As I have read, "Captain of the Guards" is an enhanced version of an older game. But from which game? And can I find it on thiefmissions.com to download it?

In earlier times (when I had Thief 1 and Thief 2 from the original CDs I tried to install the NewDarkMod, but that always failed. So I can't play the newer fan missions that use NewDark.

I would like to install Thief Gold and Thief 2 a second time by Steam so that I can let the one install unchanged to play the original missions and the fan missions with the original graphics, and in the second install I want to install the NewDarkMod. Is there an ability for that?

And can I change Thief Gold and Thief 2 to the German versions? I actually have only the English versions that I have bought from Steam. I don't know if Steam offers the German versions too, and I don't know if I want to pay a second time for it.

I'm not sure if my safe copy of the original CD "Dark Project - Der Meisterdieb" functions correct. I must try to install it, but it's for Windows 95/98, and not for Windows 10. And I must try to find my original CDs from Thief 1 or Thief 2 - if I were not such a messie... having too many things implicates that finding a special thing is nearly impossible.


I believe I have read somewhere that this fan mission is an enhancement of an older fan mission, but I don't know from what fan mission.
