Phht... I enjoy seeing stuff like this happen. It makes me happy. I hope they do sue tuns of people and the whole thing ends up costing everyone boatloads of money. muhaha
So if I'm to understand you correctly, if the hackers that liberated the console for everyone, Team Fail0verflow and George Hot, were to end up in jail or dirt poor because of legal fees (we all know how big corporations like to drag cases out for YEARS, specifically for this reason), you'd be happy? If so, then WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with you? You're absolutely FUCKED IN THE HEAD.

I feel sorry for the "hackers", just like I feel sorry for the other races who also fought for their rights sixty years ago. I look at this situation as people standing up for their rights, and even if some of these "hackers" are shut down, I rest happily knowing others will just take their places.
I also have a frothing hatred for the entertainment industry as a whole because of the corruption. In any other industry, I pay for a product and it is MINE to do with as I wish. It is mine to resell, mine to modify/adapt to suit my needs, mine to display on a wall in my shop, whatever.
I'm willing to pay for entertainment, and I do. I'm just not willing to be subjected to corporate ****.
Here's a fine example. Look at all the taffers over on the Thief forum. They want to collaberate, enhance their favorite game and fix the flaws that the original developers never did. The company that created the game disbanded forever ago... yet still these guys can be forced to stop. Do you honestly believe that crap about IP promoting "the useful arts" in a case like this? It seems that most people on these forums usually follow the rules. Exceptions seem to have been made when the engine code showed up a wile back. Links to it were all over the place there, and people are still semi-openly talking about it. I seem to recall a whole thread several pages long that was "swept under the rug" so to speak.

Are you serious.
Are you serious.aaaaaaaghghgalf;dkjf
seriously lost_hole the thread title is no longer about anything Sony did, good job
lost_soul on 10/2/2011 at 07:18
No, the thread is still about what it originally was about. A company is trying to prevent people from having full control over the hardware they bought. If you didn't want a drawn-out explanation from me, you shouldn't have asked for one. I wasn't the one who turned the debate in the direction of the hackers. Re-read post 21.
june gloom on 10/2/2011 at 07:22
No.
You compared the civil rights movement to console hackers.
Do you even understand what's wrong with this? No, no of course not, that's asking too much of you.
Get out already. You are stupid, nobody likes you, not even the other Linux nerds, and every post you make is terrible. In fact I think you've outdone yourself this time, and that's quite a feat for a guy who thinks we invaded Iraq and Afghanistan to export the DMCA.
I... I can't even bring myself to get the airplane pic for your missing the point just now. I'm just that flabbergasted.

You know, I kindasorta agree with you in a vague sorta way, LS. I also think that if I paid for something, it's mine to do with as I please. If I want to put Linux or what the hell ever on my PS3, then I should be able to do it without worrying about Sony suing the shit out of me. No one's getting hurt by my doing this, so long as I don't pirate every game and movie I come across.
I say sortakinda here because your EXTREME HYPERBOLE is a little offputting. There's a difference between common sense, and frothing at the mouth zealotry. More than occasionally, you come across as the latter. Tone it down a bit, man.
lost_soul on 10/2/2011 at 07:44
Yeah but the problem is, even if you and I don't buy a PS3, the PC will eventually have forced firmware upgrades too. They'll just spin it as "protecting everyone from viruses", and the masses will believe it.

I like how you're completely ignoring the real issue at hand here: you're a fucking crazypants with a tinfoil hat bodysuit and a pullstring coming out your back who says the same goddamn tired lines over and over again that everyone is tired of hearing even if they agree with you.
Oh, and you compared the civil rights movement to console hacking. Don't even try to gloss over that, you ignorant turdcannon.
Renzatic on 10/2/2011 at 08:00
I haven't seen any evidence of that happening. Even the big shit fit over DRM in Vista/7 supposedly interrupting every movie you watch and eating up half your megahertz was a much ado over nothing situation.
The potential is there, I guess. But I doubt any big hardware manufacturers are gonna kowtow to the movie/music industry to the point where they cripple their own platform. It's too diverse, not controlled by a single entity, and people are too used to having it a certain way for too long for them to accept anything else.
