Everyone wants their favorite game series to have a movie. In the case of Thief it's more likely than other games (I'm looking at you, official TES forum >_>), as Garrett is a defined character with his own background and personality. But still, I wouldn't trust a movie in the hands of any professional director, and most indie directors would likely not have the funds to create a movie without improvising. A lot.

No thanks, Thief porn would be quite horrible

Thanks a lot, now "The Horn of Quintus" and "Songs of the Caverns" have an association I would have liked to have done without. :p
On a more serious note that if a hypothetical Thief movie were to be made by Rustmonkey/etc... then I always thought that a story set between the training mission and Lord Bafford's mansion wouldn't be a bad idea. As far as I know, I haven't played Thief: DS yet, it's a little known part of the Thief universe that deals with Garrett's transformation from acolyte to master thief as well as providing a good setting for the introduction of the city and it's delicate balance between it's extreme factions.

It would be nice if the The Movies by Lionhead was moddable to make your own sets and costumes for a Thief movie. But I don't suppose it is.

Someone has made a dark miedeval modders pack for the movies so I guess it can be modded somewhat.

A lot of what we know of "Thief" is just sneaking around as Garrett trying to accomplish our mission. The little story tidbits are so atmosphered and so effecting partly because they are so rare. A Thief movie would have little in correlation with the game, save the storyline, right?

I'd say a series would be a much better idea. Southpaw was onto something good a few years back, did about 6 episodes.
On the screen you wouldn't be able to give the audience all the surprises you got along the game, sure you could get the main bits, but you can't show a 20 minute scene of Garrett crawling through the bonehoard and talking to himself like he's making a training video, you'd have to keep the audience informed on the other side of the story, i.e., Trickster/Viktoria.
Would need some good scriptwriting and any writer would almost definately make Garrett fall in love with Viktoria.

Naturally! There's gotta be some romance ya know! I could see a Romeo/Juliet type of tragedy to help round out the storyline. ;)

Michael Ironside or Christian Bale would be great Garret's.

If they were to make a Thief movie, any game that came out of the decision would likely be based on that movie and timed to coincide with its release. We know how games based on movies usually turn out, right?
Yes, I played GoldenEye. I also played Street Fighter: The Movie on the Sega Saturn.
