No offence, but if that's the future, it sure looks bleak...

lemme see the main character, the hero, hides in shadows and does his damndest not to be seen by anyone, rarely making a sound and only betraying his presence when he has to and then hiding again, preferring stealth to violence mainly because he'll get his a**e handed to him in a sling if he turns and fights he uses his brains to outwit his opponents rather than his muscles .. hollywood will go a bundle on a movie where you never see the star when he's doing his thang
mind you they did the batman fight scenes more or less properly last time round so you never know

Naturally! There's gotta be some romance ya know! I could see a Romeo/Juliet type of tragedy to help round out the storyline. ;)
Noooooooooooooooooooo... Thief will never be a movie..... Never ever ever ever ever!!!!!!! If there is a dumbed-down, lame-ass Hollywodd style of a Thief film, I will crawl into a dark hole and cry. :p
Oh!! Long time no see Dia. How have you been? :D

How the hell did you manage to write a whole piece of fan fiction with english like that?

I would rather read the stories of garret /thief in a series of books. But if they did a movie hopefully Peter jackson would consider directing it and get Viggo Mortenson. to play garret.

How about this: Someone, anyone, (all of us?) come up with a good, solid story, a storyline, then a screenplay? Make it canon-correct or not, as ye see fit.
If it's well-written, logical, and captivating, as a great story should be, the movie will be made.
Within thief community are some of the most creative and intelligent people I've ever met. Surely we can collectively come up with a compelling screenplay.
What say you?

The Hollywood movie climate is ever-changing, and right now, studios aren't favoring this sort of endeavor. But, a rule of thumb has been semi-established about game movies: they must be wildly popular. Doom, Resident Evil, Halo - all well-established and currently popular franchises. Even if they don't lend themselves to film nearly as well as does Thief (Doom), their popularity gets them green lights.
Now, I don't know if there is any real differentiation there. Are game movies and good movies mutually exclusive to execs? Does an
amazing script get you a green light, or do you need an industry heavy-weight like Jackson to get the ball rolling? I certainly don't know.
One thing I do know is that Hollywood is still intrinsically "buddy-buddy". Without a major figure backing the project, the greatest screenplay will go literally nowhere.

1) What's the point
2) It'll never get made
3) What's the point
Whenever one of these threads comes up, I shake my head in disbelief.
Every movie based on a video game has been pure, unadulterated garbage,
without a single exception.
Why why why why why why why would a fan of Thief want to see this intelligent, incomparable game reduced to trough-of-popcorn movie swill for the masses?
The idea of a Thief movie is such an epically retarded one that anyone who honestly believes it might be a worthwhile endeavour should be locked into a padded cell for the good of humanity.
