Every movie based on a video game has been pure, unadulterated garbage,
without a single exception.
silent hill was quite good IMO. and i say this as someone who's been a fan of the series since 1999. (well, SH4 sucks.)
of course you'll disagree with me because you hate everything.

I liked both the first Resident Evil movie (second one was crap) and Doom (it didn't take itself too serious).
I also liked The Last Starfighter. But I think that was a movie about a video game, and that later got made into a video game.
Cheers,

I agree with Harem Scarem.
Peter Jackson should direct and use Viggo Mortensen to make a Thief Movie. Anyway, when Frodo and the other hobbits first meet Aragorn (Viggo), wasn't he sitting in a dark corner? On his own? In a black, hooded cloak? AND didn't he go upstairs and say ' I can avoid being seen if I wish ' and put out a candle with his fingers? How Garrrett-like! ;)

Very Garret-like indeed. Viggo would be a good choice, though perhaps not the best. His dedication to his work is almost unmatched in the industry, however, which is a solid plus.
There is no rule that game movies have to be bad. Studios see them as efficient ways to milk an established IP, but like I said, the climate is always changing.
The beautiful thing about a Thief film is that it wouldn't require a Pirates-like budget. Give a capable team thirty million or so, remove high-budget restrictions, and you'll get a good film. I'd venture to guess that, depending on the storyline, less than 5% of scenes would require any sort of immaculate CG, which is the 21st century budget killer.

There seems to be a lot of pep for either an animated movie a mini-series, also possibly animated, both of which might best be produced here, by us, the people with by far the most loyalty to Thief. Some people have even called first dibs of what part to play. I suppose if we did it that way, I'd have more to contribute.
We'd need a sign-up, comm and networking solutions, but all that is not so impossible. Animation and/or series seems to be where the confidence is.
Some one also said, if it is hollywood, write a script and pitch it. These are the insights I was looking for. But still, maybe we should see if we can't realize this here...

possibly the most CG-heavy stuff would be anything involving the pagans and maw creatures (especially treebeasts).
so the focus would have to be more on the hammers (or possibly the keepers in the interests of neutrality) if you wanted to keep the budget low.
as far as zombies are concerned (and you HAVE to have zombies and haunts), just get tom savini on board.

I would rather read the stories of garret /thief in a series of books. But if they did a movie hopefully Peter jackson would consider directing it and get Viggo Mortenson. to play garret.
Good Idea, certainly a better choice than Spiderman :laff:

Would need some good scriptwriting and any writer would almost definately make Garrett fall in love with Viktoria.
Obviously, Victoria and Constantine would need to be introduced within the first half and hour of the film (unike the game) and be a real character, because 1) it's not really a surprise to find out Constantine is
the Trickster
after just one 1 minute of screen time unless he's portrayed as a regular (noble)man first throughout the movie, and 2) Victoria would need to know Garrett somehow so that there would be a sense of betrayal (I always assumed in a Thief movie she should be a fence he has worked with for about 2 years, but then that's just my idea)
Other than that, those are two possible requirements I think a thief movie would need. I've had an idea for a thief movie (has anyone else?) but I only have an outline, as what is the point in writing a full script? Scripts take a long time to write (and rewrite and rewrite). Though a fan based movie script that everyone contributes to, with different scenes and plots in a large collaboration could actually be fun, if done just for fun.

Actually I don't like the SH games at all, but the movie was really good IMO. It even inspired me to play the first game a bit, but it's not my kind of game somehow. I'll keep trying though. :)
The Doom movie was also not so bad. I didn't like the Resident Evil because it was to boring.
Anyway, I understood the original poster such, that the movie doesn't need to be done by Hollywood. We could also create one as a community project. :)

Ok we can use a small animation program to make a short mini series of Thief. But...the storyline?? Maybe the sealed section of old quarter 'somehow' has a gap in and hoards of zombies wander the City? Or someone carries on Karras' evil plan? Or Garrett gets sick of the City and goes on a quest to another? Or...or...damn it!:erg:
