not to totally go against the spirit of this thread, but i'd love to simply see a competent game that's true to the spirit of TDP and TMA. when you think of how far the basic capabilities of the medium has come, that "pushing 10 years" since TDP came out actually is kind of depressing. movies? mini-series? meh, i'd just take another good Thief game.

if you're going to do something... ANYTHING.. out of love for it, it's worth doing properly

wow, S_hole, that video you linked is disturbingly like a japanese thief.
a thief anime would most certainly have to draw from the style of thief's cutscenes, which that video seems to do better than even VHD does.
for what it's worth i am NOT an anime fan, though i've got some laying around. (spent $60 on the entire evangelion series earlier this year.) for me it's about the story and not the animation, and if the story is shit or nonsensical (see DBZ) don't expect me to watch it just because it's anime.
now, i'm gonna have to check out kakurenbo, though, that looks really interesting.
[few minutes later] just looked up the plot for it, and it sounds a little thiefy as well (think old quarter/closed section):
"Otokoyo", as they call it, is a game of hide and seek, played near the ruins of an old city which no one inhabits. Whenever the children play this game, one by one, they go missing, and it is said demons and ghosts are the cause for their disappearances. One night, a boy named Hikora must play this game and enter the forbidden territory of "Otokoyo" in hopes of finding his missing sister.
definitely checking this out. :thumb:

How about someone putting together a complete in-game Thief movie, using a camvator? You could write a script, create your own dialogue, and choreograph any scene you like. Actually, now that I say it out loud, it does sound like a lot of work. :joke:

I didn't make that! I randomly found it while browsing youtube.
Oh yeh our movies storyline!?!
Ummm, how about...
- The sealed section of old quarter 'somehow' has a gap in and hoards of zombies wander the City
- Or someone carries on Karras' evil plan
- Or Garrett gets sick of the City and goes on a quest to another?
Or...or...damn it! :erg:
Anyone else!?!

ignore the silly masks
the thief cutscenes are actually pretty much anime in disguise
just draw the faces be more western like (which some anime does) and dump the cell shading(which some also does) and do a lot of panning with stills (lazy animation 101)
+ some liveaction silhouettes and still morphs
have a look at a few episodes of "gits:standalone complex" or "karas" or even "last exile"(which is even steampunk actually)
Amazingly, even after watching that video, I stand by my opinion.
@ thiefobsessedgirl: When I think about it, I notice that the hammerite faction is the only one that hasn't really been involved in one of the major "ages." If you guys are curious about my idea, I could try to write a sort of summary, but I don't really have time for it at the moment...
june gloom on 8/11/2006 at 06:04
debatably, the hammers WERE involved in the metal age in the form of the mechanist schism.
if you consider that each game has to do with an extreme imbalance in one of the 3 majour factions...
thiefobsessedgirl on 9/11/2006 at 18:14
Also in TMA, there was a Hammer in the warehouse mission talking about how much he hates the Mechanists. :cheeky:
Vhilhu on 9/11/2006 at 20:28
uh.. warehouse mission?
i remember 2 hammerites from t2, 1 from "get the masks beofre entering the factory" mission and 1 from lighthouse island mission. i played t2 before t1, and at first i thought they are just disguised haunts :D
Maddermadcat on 9/11/2006 at 21:48
She's talking about "Shpping... And recieving."
I remember that hammerite too. He was standing in front of Kilgor's Weapon Smithing (Or something with a similar name) and talking to the owner who was the guy who makes their hammers.
