Hello all -
I've been a Deus Ex fan for quite a while, but haven't played it in a few years. I have the GOTY edition, and for kicks I installed in on my new laptop - a Pentium M 1.4Ghz/512Mb machine running WinXP. My video card is an onboard Intel which can run in multiple modes.
I can successfully play the game, but it is running at about 2X speed. So fast that the transmissions from Jamie and the character conversations get clipped off - almost like you had seen them before and just hit the mouse button to quickly get through the dialogue. The characters also move much faster than normal.
I know there is a game speed setting I can tweak, but I've tried that and it doesn't make a difference. I've used settings as low as .0005 and as high as 40, but didn't see a difference. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.
So can anyone give me any suggestions for slowing it down? Strange problem to have, I know, but any help would be appreciated. I have every single rendering option maxed out - still no difference.
Thanks much!

Try turning v-sync on.
it might help

Search on google for a little program called turbo - it allows you to regulate how fast your CPU runs

V-Sync is the answer for you. I'm not exactly sure where the onboard Intel chips hide that setting, though.

Thanks for the V-Sync suggestions - I'll give it a try. On an interesting note, I did try OpenGL rendering, which worked at the proper speed. I then switched back to D3D and the speed did not increase. It then worked fine until I shut the game down completely. When I rebooted and reloaded, the old problem was back. So I'm thinking V-Sync might not be the culprit, but rather the differences between DX 7.0 and 9.0. I'm certainly not going to install the old version just to test it out though!
I really appreciate the help...
Now - anyone have any good links for a list of Easter Eggs in this version?

D3D is a mess, OpenGL rocks - listen to John Carmack! :)
I have the same problem with Thief, and vSync always helps me. The important issue is what framerate your monitor runs on. The ideal game speed will be on 60Hz, but this may hurt your eyes if you use a non-LCD monitor.
