Based on my personal favourites, I will add a whole bunch of awesome suggestions (I will exclude JRPGs unless truely awesome or sufficiently different). Get ready for...
PS1!
Alundra (now on PSN!)
Arc the Lad Collection (more tactical than the average JRPG; Arc the Lad 2 is fantastic)
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
Heart of Darness
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
And Oddworld games.
Playstation 2
The obvious ones:
Jak & Daxter series
Ratchet and Clank Series
Sly 2 & 3 (also coming to PS3)
Okami (!)
Radiata Stories (I find significantly more engaging than the average JRPG, with a fun battle system an a well-realized world)
Ys: The Ark of Napishtim
Also note that ICO & Shadow of the Colossus are coming to PS3 if you want to wait. I can't really recommend anything else for GameCube (that you don't have), though I did enjoy Skies of Arcadia: Legends quite a lot.
I'm assuming you've played Beyond Good & Evil and the Prince of Persia Trilogy. I played them on GameCube, but they're easiest to get on PC nowadays.
As for MGS, I found the playing it again on Twin Snakes more frustrating than anything. I don't know whether the game simply didn't age well, the guards were too alert, or what. Your mileage may vary, but I much preferred when I played it on PS1.

Metal Gear Solid 3.... Unfortunately you can't get that anymore.
Thats not entirely true. If you buy the metal gear solid collection, you get the subsistence version without the bonus disc. Pity, but I'd take that over the standard version.

^^^ Doesn't anyone read my posts anymore...
Anyway. Recommendations:
Silent Hill 2 is better on Xbox, but the Greatest Hits ver. for PS2 comes very close.
SH3
Black (fps)
Burnout series *skip the 1st game
NFS Hot Pursuit 2
Metal gear Solid Essentials Collection
FFX *skip FFX-2
Cold Fear *surhor
Mercenaries
GTA Trilogy
GTA Liberty City Stories
GTA Vice City Stories
The Warriors
Suffering 1 and 2
Manhunt 1 and 2
Psi-Ops
Second Sight
Timesplitters series
XIII
The Hobbit
Primal
Beyond Good and Evil
Jak 2 and 3
Siren
King's Field-Ancient City
KUON
Gun
Destroy All Humans 1 and 2
Hitman series
more to come. If any pique your interest, let me know. I can expand on each and every game on request.

Seconding The Warriors and Burnout 3.

That's NTSC only, though.
As for the thread, I only ever played two PS2 games,
MGS3 Subsistence and
Splinter Cell Double Agent and I strongly recommend both. MGS3 has been mentioned already, and SCDA on the PS2 is a must-play if you like stealth games.

Dude, last-gen version of Double Agent is my favorite in the series by far. The series peaked with that title, as far as I am concerned.

Wouldn't red faction be better on pc? I remember playing the demo of it and being that there was a "destruction limit" in the sandbox room haha. So the full game is actually good then?
Red Faction, any version, is shit. It's a wannabe Half-Life clone that's inferior to Half-Life in almost every way. The much-touted geomod engine is completely wasted.

A wananbe half life clone? Are you out of your head? Red Faction is nothing like half life. I dunno what you're going on about.:weird:

I dunno, I thought of Half-Life also when I first played it back in 2001... Volition even got asked about it, they said it just sort of happened that way.
Google "Red Faction Half-Life" (without quotes) and tell me how many reviews all seem to say the exact same thing.

Okay, whatever you say. I don't really see much of a connection (yes i've played both games), but you guys are entitled to your own opinions.
