I thought that would be kinda awesome and I hated myself for it.

It's amazing no one has mentioned guardian forces or card collecting mini-games yet.
Commander, I hear there is an extremely rare card in your sector. Secure it before the Aeon get their filthy hands on it. We can't lose another card battle to those lunatics!Because few people have played FF8; even fewer liked it. Personally, it was better, at least mechanically, than FF7 which confused the living hell out of me for the first 15 minutes of the damn game... Then after I got it, I gave the hell up on trying to actually accomplish anything and played Morrowind some more.
On a side note: I hope they just don't make it another crap MMORPG attempt that ends up being a bigger waste of time than WoW (which is quite the achievement).

"Few people have played FF8" is incorrect, as it, like any FF game, had a lot of folks itching to play it.
Then they actually played it.
Nobody made an FF8 joke because they were trying to mental block that shit.

I'll concede to that one. Personally, it made more sense to me to apply magic points to my stats and that certain magics were better with certain stats.
Then again, I was bored with it as easily as I was with 7. I, personally, am more of a Tactics fan than the *regular* games.
Of course... I never really was a fan of any FF game, too much "friendship" and not enough fire-summoning, psychotic daemon swords and chemically induced dragon comas.

As mediocre as FF7 was it still holds a small place in my heart for being the first big PSX game I ever owned and first jRPG I ever played.

Me.
I loved FF8's mechanics. The system was quite simple but there were so many options.
Anyone who bitches about Draw doesn't know that A) You can exchange magic/junctions between characters meaning you only need three "sets" at any given time and/or B) That all GFs have skills to refine magic from items, and your inventory maxes out on all basic items(spells) at the end of first disc or so.
A is especially hilarious since it's covered not only in the manual but in the game tutorial as well. The B is common fucking sense. I mean what do you do when you get to select what skill your GF will be learning next for the first time? You go over all of them checking
what they do.
The so called reviewer is also wrong on one more thing: You CAN remember the last cursor position(It's an option in the menu) so it IS possible to turn drawing into button mashing.
tl;dr: It Is Not My Fault That You Suck.

Koki loves FF8? My entire life makes sense now.
No, Koki. No. Draw sucks because- wait, I have to waste an entire turn trying to get magic from the enemies while they fuck every orifice unhindered because I'm drawing magic instead of fighting them? Playstation off.
Worse: the levelling system. The monsters levelled with Squall, but since you could never ever take young David Bowie, I mean Squall, out of the party, he always advanced ahead of everyone else- and the monsters levelled with him, and not everyone else, so you get into a random battle every 3 steps, most of the party gets owned outright, and without any backup Squall has his ass handed to him. Playstation off.
Oh and the story sucked a mean dick too.

You were getting owned? In Final Fantasy 8?
