Is this where you do the stereotypical "well it's easy for me maybe you just suck" bit? Because, uh, there's an empty room full of people who give a shit.
Koki on 21/11/2008 at 14:32
Well shit, yesterday I had a guy convincing me it's almost impossible to finish BG solo, which I did. So maybe I am a goddamn gosu and don't even know about it.
Or maybe both of you just don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

Hey folks.
I want to endorse FF8. It's a brilliant, brilliant game.
Of the FFs I've played (7, 8, 9, 10) it's by far the best.
The GF customisation is fantastic. The characters are OK (Squall is a dick, but hey).
I didn't have a problem with drawing magic... Hell, I remember drawing from the Ultima robot thingy whilst keeping the party alive just fine with heals and buffs.
In fact the key to 8 seemed to be buffing your party through all the hard fights. Slow/haste/shell seemed to work wonders for me.
FF9 was much, much harder than 8. Hell, 9 owned me from the very first flower boss you meet. 8 was a stroll by comparison.
Koki, you aren't alone! FF8 is one of my faves.

Except I only admire the system now. The game itself is unplayable. I'm not angsty emo teen anymore and I can't stand the characters and the story.
It was cool to draw the magic from the enemy, the draw healing spells and heal yourself, then draw offensive magic and kill him with it though.
Phatose on 21/11/2008 at 22:00
Draw would've worked a bit better if enemies weren't infinite magic fountains for whatever spells they had.
It had some interesting ideas, but it was every bit as hippie bullshit as FF7 was, with the same "You've got time to watch this 30 second animation for the 300th time, don't you?" spell bullshit, and doomtrain, which is by far the most bullshit collectible of all time.
But it didn't have fucking Cloud so it's still better the FF7.

Thats odd... I never even bothered to draw from my enemies, I just refined my magic or got it thru draw points. Hell, I barely used any magic because I did what I do in damn near every game I play: I go about outside and kill. If I find I'm getting owned too much @ a particular part in the story, I load to before it started, and level more.
Hell, by the time I was at disk 2 I was like... Shit, I don't even remember anything about how high level I was, except my friend commenting that I was far more powerful than what was "expected."
Then again, I also had Diablos and Doomtrain by my side as early as I could possibly get them. They made killing everything else almost too easy.
Then again... tl;dr. Basically, I just whooped ass in the interim time until I couldn't level (effectively) any more.
[edit]
PS: I also grew rather tired of the story. I prefer "dick" Squall to angsty Squall any day.

On a side note: I hope they just don't make it another crap MMORPG attempt that ends up being a bigger waste of time than WoW (which is quite the achievement).
At least FFXI has a plot.

And 16 hour boss fights.

SupCom isn't all that great anyway. Runs like shit while looking like it too for the most part. Buggy beyond belief at release. Not enough unit variety really..
It was an improvement over Total Annihilation in just about every way though. But I missed the unbelievable number of units that my fav modpacks came with. And the super hardcore cheater AIs that the modders made.
Friends and I played a lot of LAN games of SupCom (and TA before it) but SupCom just ran too damn slow. Unless you have 3GHz Core 2s, don't bother with big games w/ AIs unless you enjoy molasses unit movement. A big problem for us cuz we usually all ally up and go against the a few of the hardest AI.
