And 16 hour boss fights.
Wasn't that a bug though?

If I remember my Internet hearsay, that was because it was a trick boss, and the group fighting it just never figured out the trick*.
The boss now disappears after two hours' worth of fighting.
*IIRC, no one else has yet either.

At least FFXI has a plot.
Saying a MMORPG has a plot is like saying TT 40k has a plot. Yeah, some shit happens now and then, but it doesn't actually
go anywhere, because if it did the game would need to end sooner or later. And it can't end since it makes money.

Technically, Guild Wars has a plot and there is an "end" so to speak. Sure, after Prophecies the stories were kinda... bland, but they at least existed.

According to a local game news site, some info will be (or was) revealed about Supreme Commander 2 in the next (new) british PC Gamer. The news item said, that units will gain experience and become much stronger if they stay alive for long, and that the economic management part will be removed, so that players can focus on the combat. Also, the story will be written by Square Enix (or at least they will "assist").
They didn't provide a source, but I found (
http://www.wegame.com/view/Supreme_Commander_2_PC_Gamer_Scan/) this, which confirms the economic thing part.

Yeah I read it. I still don't want it.

Still? It's like three kicks in the balls.
[Doublepost merge] RPS (
http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/06/11/supreme-commander-2-supremier/#more-12844) linked to some E3 vids. The game's not looking bad. They still don't let physics or reason hold them back so we get cannons firing friendly units across the (bizzare)map and Cybranozilla, well guess what that is. Not a word about XP or no economy, tech is now a tree and - what I think is most promising - wrecks actually stay on the battlefield.

I'm just gonna pop in and say that I find FF VIII to be far more enjoyable than any of the others. Which is not to deny that it's very flawed in numerous ways. I just think it's a lot more distinctive and interesting than the other rather generic FF games. It's the great guilty pleasure of my gaming collection. Also, great soundtrack.
As far as Supreme Commander/Square goes, there was a post on Joystiq about how Square was in no way interfering with the development, though I can't seem to find it right now.
