After MW2's utter terribleness in a lot of departments, my expectations are incredibly low. The fact that all the people who had any actual talent at Infinity Ward jumped ship just compounds this.
Regardless, after Black Ops' god awful optimisation, Treyarch making the game run worse in subsequent patches and the sole GSP finding my country not important enough to setup local servers (despite high demand), my good will towards this series is gone. I'll probably just rent the 360 version to the play through the campaign and then call it a day.

Why would I play COD when I could just watch any summer action flick and get all the same thrills, without the gameplay annoyances, for a fraction of the price?
Bloody videogames - always putting the gameplay in our way of having fun

They also have Glen Scholfield's Sledgehammer Games helping out on the campaign, which is promising since he helped create the Dead Space franchise. :thumb:

in the case of the COD franchise, thats true. The gameplay serves only two purposes in that series: as a buffer between cutscenes, and as a delivery mechanism for setpieces.

Kind of like in a book the text is just a buffer between white spaces and delivery mechanism for stories right?
man, fuck books.

I don't know why you want CCCToad BANNED, though. Seems quite extreme.

I like the story arc, even if it was kind of badly written in a few places. Here's my gripe. Back in the days of COD1 & 2 they weren't doing any less theivery from hollywood blockbusters than they are now. The beginning of the russian campaign in COD1 is a complete ripoff of the opening scene of enemy at the gates. The entire Point du Hoc mission in Cod2 was taken from an A&E Documentary about the guns that the rangers messed up with thermite (it was important because those guns were never found and they never really figured out where they were after the battle, because they disappeared, and the docu might not have been A&E so sorry if I"m wrong there). And there's more that I dont' remember ATM, but I remember noticing them. The thing is, pre MW, they made up for those blatant rip off moments with some really great original gameplay moments. The first thing that comes to mind is the opening level in the russian campaign of United Offensive.
Modern Warefare had the Pripyat level. Which was awesome. Until you took off the ghille suit and it became extremely un-fun. To the point of having to lower the difficulty level just to get past it. Other than that is hollywood rip off after ripoff. MW2's most iconic set piece was ripped off the Rock.
And I think Black Ops was the worst for it. It started out nice and original. I was enjoying it. Then the infinite respawns and artificial difficulty padding came in to play and made the game a chore, rather than a treat. then it was like EVERY SINGLE DAMN LEVEL after the first couple was a movie ripoff. Tunnel Rats stood out, seriously? Uwe Boll? Granted it was probably the best movie he ever made, but really? and then right after that during it was The Deer Hunter they were ripping off in the russian roulette scene. I've already SEEN these movies, please please please get some original thoughts in your heads. And make the game challenging, I want complex tactical puzzles to solve, thats a challenge, not a "get to donkey kong level 100" kind of difficult. For a tactical shooter it plays too much like a hollywood movie where the protagonist dies every 4 seconds and is ressurected to try again, than a game that requires tactics.
So... I am tentatively optimistic that it will be a decent game. But certainly not worth the $60 price tag FOR PC that it will come with and maintain for 3 to 4 years after its release. MW is STILL 30 bucks on steam, and they never go on sale. And I can't borrow them to play anymore because of the DRM. So i'm adopting a "we'll see" attitude.

What? So if it has guns in it, then it's 'tactical' now? Though you could've just omitted that word from that sentence and it would still be true. :)
