Yeah, calling Call of Duty a tactical shooter is almost as bad as trashing Doom because it's not like Rainbow 6.

It's the "modern warfare" part. Doom isn't like rainbow six because doom is a sci/fi horror game. the new COD games are based in a style where military types and wannabes are drooling over the guns and gadgets. Military tactics are a part of that, It's like milsim paintball, You're not running around with a space gun and a 300rd hopper carrying another 2000 rounds on you shooting at 35bps. Milsim guys trick out their markers with heavy accessories to make it look liek the real thing and go play at CQB fields where there are buildings and hallways instead of inflatable obstacles. Some even go to the effort to train like real swat and paramilitary people (which takes it into an area that I'm not nerdy enough to follow)
I'm not saying COD should be like Operation Flashpoint or PQ Swat. I'm just saying there should be the option to utilize some sort of tactical brainpower. Like.... flanking the enemy or something. I haven't flanked a group of baddies in COD since COD2 in the trainyard level.

I'll stop bringing it up when it stops being funny.

I've always enjoyed the CoD campaigns as stupid, jingoistic (mostly) whack a mole simulators. That being said, I feel like the multiplayer needs a serious overhaul. I appreciated Treyarch adding the currency system and doing the Cold War thing, but how many times can you unlock a red dot for an AK? Add a grenade launcher to an M4? How many NEW weapons can they add to MW3? I just don't see what keeps people coming back to play essentially the same online game with new skins.

CCCHoad clearly has never actually played a CoD game.
Actually, I did play MW2 and COD 2 as can be proven by examing my gamertag. CoD2 was little more than Gauntlet's gameplay mechanics with a World War 2 skin, whereas MW2 wants badly to be a hollywood blockbuster but fails to be anywhere near as entertaining.

Actually, thats pretty well put. I think thats the reason I find the entire COD series so dull. The main enjoyment I get out of games is solving the different puzzles and problems games throw at me. Games like L.A. Noire allow me to figure out the puzzle with my own faculties, and Portal gives a sense of satisfaction when you solve each new room. Tactical games like Arma and Ghost Recon give me enough tools and freedom to figure out a good way to get through each tactical situation on my own, and even most multiplayer games give me that in a way. For example, what tactic and loadout should I use to counter that guy who's whoring the sniper rifle in Halo? There's been quite a few times that I've been able to take out players who are much better than I am by luring them onto a grenade or getting them to charge me while I have a shotgun or sword.
Call of Duty offers very little of that. I'm always told exactly where to be at any given time, handed exactly the right weapon for the situation, and usually told exactly what I need to do in order to progress. At no point is there an opportunity to figure shit out on my own without being handheld. The only real differentiating factor is how twitchy I am, something that holds true even in multiplayer.

Yeah I don't care about your gamertag. I can't fault the Hollywood comment on MW2 (because it's completely true, though I like it anyway) but CoD2? Are you fucking serious?
And seriously, guys, stop complaining that CoD isn't a tactical shooter. It's a fucking first person interactive Hollywood movie. Either get with it, or go back to ArmA or something.

If you want Hollywood-style over-the-top faux-realism (i.e. a real story and infantry battles where the combatants are less than 100 yards away) mixed with tactics you should be playing Brothers In Arms.
I wouldn't complain if Gearbox decided to join the fray and whipped out Brothers In Arms: Modern Warfare either. It would be like first-person Full Spectrum Warrior with a script.

So now that we're most likely getting multiple different characters from mutliple different countries they're going the AMERIKA route?
