Now that Im done with college and can afford the higher-shelf booze I realize, whoa, the more expensive stuff really does taste bater! I no longer need to water the whiskey down with coke to make it paltable! But while it's true ~90% of the time, there's some surprisngly good low-end bargains as well. So for the frequent drinkers here who'd rather save for the next Steam sale, let's trade our finds!
A nice gem I found was Yabber&Sons Shiraz (currently on sale at $6 at Fresh&Easy), really yummy! Another nice find was Robert Mondavi White Zinfandel which tastes more plumy than winey at $5, reminding me of Polish "Wisnowka" (plum-infused alcohol). And lastly, Turning Leaf Merlot has to be my favorite (cheap) merlot thus far at some $5, but I like my reds just a wee bit sweet.
And on the uber-cheapo side I recently got Gallo Family Cabarnet Sauvignon and while first day it was meh and bland, second day it was surprisingly decent considering the uber-uber low pricetag of $4.
And on brandy front, I always found EJs surprisngly better than you'd expect for its price. Not that I wouldn't prefer to sip on some Red Label or Wild Turkey instead as far a liquour goes but...
And a story of caution - I tried the infamous Trader Joe's 2-buck-chucks (Charles Shaw) and the Fresh & Easy equivalent Big Kahuna and found both absolutely terrible. The F&E actually made me sick next day. Avoid!
(And while we're mentioning Trader Joes, I heard it's cheapo rum is supposedly decent at the price - it's not. it blows. Also avoid Gato Negro wines too, urgh some bad hangovers)
What's your finds?

2 buck Chuck is a bit of a crap shoot. They have their own vineyards, but they also buy up surplus from different wineries and bottle it under their own label, so sometimes that bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon will have been made from higher quality grapes, and sometimes it won't. I'm also not a wine drinker, so I don't give a shit either way. It all tastes the same to me and I don't like any of it.

2 Buck Chuck is nothing more than grape juice that went bad. I'd fully advise drinking anti-freeze over that garbage.

Two days? Just how big a bottle do you get for four bucks?

Don't do it. Buy good quality beer. Preferably German, from Germany. I recommend dunkels. Mmmm.
