Thirith -- I'm not sure this was even mentioned in that manual, but another addition is the ability to punch people, which means you're no longer forced to use pepper spray or a taser on those infuriatingly non-compliant civilians who crop up from time to time. (Not wasting that ammo on the civis is another reason the non-lethal approach is more viable this time around.)

This game wasn't on my radar until I saw that video on Irrational's history, and I knew what they meant about the importance of atmosphere & honing the mechanics, and I've wanted to play it since then. Plus, I don't know if it's a phase I'm going through, but lately I've been kind of fantasy'd & scifi'd out and actually liking a little real world in my games... It's why I've been into VietCong & IL-2 & GTA-SA lately.

Thanks Shadowcat, I managed to create for myself a campaign using the vanilla missions in the Quick Mission Maker.

SWAT 4 Gold is available from D2D, for $20 USD.

No thanks for me, then...
And yeah, I have seen that D2D ver. for years, but for some reason won't bite on the $20 price point.
in other words, I am flat broke

You're driving around suburbs in a sedan, not mystical islands on a pterodactyl. Compared to full-on fantasy & sci-fi, it's about (exaggerated) situations you could imagine in the real world. Your friend is in trouble and you have to drive over there and get him out of a bind.
Or the snarky way I was going to put it: You're right, a West coast black urban gang is the furthest thing from our reality you could imagine; what was I thinking?

The point is, you've grouped in one of the arcade-yest titles ever with a bunch of games which lean heavily towards simulation in their gameplay, especially IL-2 and SWAT 4.

I do believe he was talking about the atmosphere and setting, and didn't mean to imply he wanted to get into some sort of semantic debate about the granularity of the simulation down to how come CJ never takes his pants off even when he's getting laid, buuuuut who would actually want to mention inane shit like that, right
