If the awards have no punitive effect then they might at least have a beneficial one. Twenty-three million could endow a foundation to do enduring work promoting fair trade or for diabetes research, children's sports etc. etc. etc. etc...
I'm afraid that's not a marketable idea.
What did you expect? Money goes to the apathetic whores these days. And what's most unfortunate is that a majority of the masses are too stupid to do anything about it.

If they are still making a profit then the cost of this action is being rolled into their general expenses. However you slice it, the source of their profits, the consumer, pays.
When individuals get fined, it generally has a personal impact. When corporations get fined, it has virtually no impact on the people who committed the criminal act in the first place. They will just be more careful next time.
If there is no personal accountability and there is no significant punitive effect for the company, we might at least get some enduring benefit.

What Nicker is saying is that they should just cut out the middle man and send everyone chocolate.

Indeed, supplementing the work of the Easter Bunny is yet another great example of a possible enduring benefit.
We need more people with your imagination in the legal system, faetal. Any chance of you changing majors at Uni?

Hmmm, I guess going from life science to law isn't much of a jump. It's all books right?

And it's all life too.

Sweet victory.
Some said we were fruit 'n' nuts cases and were fudging the facts. Some said we had lowered the bar, gone soft in the center.
Justice? Why wait? I won't candy coat things, it was a tough fight but if we are to work, rest or play in a society under rule of law we must be prepared to test our resolve in court!
Got my "settlement" of $26.00 on November 7. That's more than sixpence of heaven, it's a little something for everyone.

It's good that they gave you a year to work on that scattergun panoply of A grade puns also.
