Sad news. He was one of the main contributors to the invention of midi, and pretty much set the bar for polyphonic synths.
What a loss, but also what a legacy.

Dave Smith's work on MIDI was amazing, years and years ahead of it's time, STILL in broad use!

Dude invented the programmable polyphonic synthesizer, MIDI, wave sequencing, and the first pc soft synth. I can't think of anyone who created more important things in music tech than that, not even Moog or Buchla.
