I can confirm the use of Newdark, and it's setup properly for mods. Just wonderful.
voodoo47 on 14/2/2013 at 11:39
and it's using NewDark by default. that means everything will be working fine.

SS2 is pretty much highly regarded for the gameplay experience.
The literature component is only one piece is puzzle and definitely the not most part by a long shot. Dethtoll seems to be focusing on that one and ignoring the rest.

I love it for the atmosphere of the environment also. I found Bioshock a little too much of a caricature of itself to get lost in.
SS2 was straight up sci-fi. Not sure I liked the steampunk, "sci-fi from the past" aesthetic of Bioshock much. It distracted me.

You consider Bioshock to be Steampunk... seriously? I suppose you have a point, with all of those Victorian aesthetics in Bioshock WHICH DIDN'T EXIST.

With Bioshock I had huge expectations and came away disappointed (it's not a *bad* game, but as the spiritual successor to the System Shock games it was dumbed down in certain ways and felt like too much of a carbon copy in others). With Bioshock 2 I expected very little and came away impressed. In terms of actual storytelling (vs. high-level concept and themes) Bioshock 2 did much better than the first game IMO.
Has GOG also updated the Thief games with NewDark?

and, can't they get in trouble for doing that sort of thing?
(maybe if people are getting a cut they don't really care how this sort of thing happens)

Their using newDark and claiming it as their own?............
That is so low on so many levels. And their going to make good money off this.
SubJeff on 14/2/2013 at 12:50
Are they claiming it as their own? Or are they just trying to give people the best gaming experience they can get from it?

I'v not played SS1 or BS2, but I'd go with: SS2 > Dead Space > Bioshock > Dead Space 2
I think by today's standards, SS2 is fairly flat in terms of plot etc... but for when it was released, it was a great deal deeper than a lot of games on offer.
I had suspicions about the big reveal, but I still felt it was paced well.
That said, I've still never completed the game as I just really didn't like The Body of The Many.
I agree the SS2 story was good for the time but nothing special by today's standards. SS2 was all about the atmosphere, gameplay, character building, and levels. Even Body of the Many was good until the internal organs... then it was WTF, who came up with this? But it was worth getting through BOTM because the final level was great. Despite a few weapon balance issues, it's my favorite RPG.
The big reveal is one thing that Bioshock did better than SS2. I'll admit it, the devs mind fucked me. Yeah, I suspected Atlas wasn't for real and I knew some twist was coming at Ryan's (because I had played SS2 before...) but I didn't actually expect to meet Ryan and I definitely hadn't foreseen the twist. Too bad none of the game's other ideas connected.
For me, SS2 > SS1 > Bioshock > Dead Space. I didn't play Bioshock 2 and I didn't play the Dead Space sequels because I hate third-person shooters on the PC. Deciding between SS1 and SS2 is a bit hard. SS2 is far more immersive and re-playable and holds my interest better. SS1 can get stale in some parts where it feels like a treasure hunt in a maze, but overall it's such a good challenge. I felt a sense of accomplishment after finishing it like no other game.
Anyway, it's nice to see SS2 on GOG with NewDark. I can't second guess the legality of it, but it does provide the best gameplay experience and it might get a few more new people to try it out.
