Well, it's just that this mission has everything the OM had and more. Multiple conversations, Garrett being involved in conversations, more than one battle between AIs, well-placed buildings and loot, a very cool and somewhat funny side-quest... pretty much the only thing that it was missing (not that it needed this, though) was an about-face plot twist like in the Sherif Truart mission in T2. Yeah, there were some relativly minor plot twists, and that's fine.
I think the only thing CC "Sugffers" from is being a tad too big (not that it could have been made too much smaller), and maybe being a bit too hard in some places... (though not frustrating). My only gripes are as follows: How linear the mission is... but it had to be this way to ensure you don't accidently have your "Second talk" with Mercedies before the first time you see her, or that you don't accidently trigger an event that's not supposed to happen until later. And also, i didn't particulairly care for the voice of Mercedies... she sounded too melodramatic for me to take seriously.
But other than that, the pros far outweight the otherwise petty cons.

Thanks for everybody's opinions. No, no, I didn't say I don't like CC, I just wanted to hear what other people like about it, kinda - what makes it a good FM. Please keep posting.
I agree that it's a bit linear and hard in some places. But it's got the atmosphere.

It simply stands out as a unique FM. There is nothing quite like it and (importantly) it works as a unique concept.

Yesterday I finished playing CC... Well, yes, it is a great mission. I guess the lightning was nicely done, the roof-climbing was pretty exciting, but I guess imo what makes it a great mission is the fact that it is technologically rich, many conversations, Mercedes gesturing as she speaks. Putting together brother Aldrius was not easy to do in DromEd. Also Calendra's house was very atmospheric.
But I spotted a few bugs as I was playing. The biggest one I found was the brother Aldrius head. When I activated his head in my inventory the head was talking. Fine. But then when I left it was still talking from the place where I activated it. Did you also notice it? Perhaps there was no way to actually remove this small thing.

You know...I leave the forums only to come back occasionally and see what people are chatting about. It's always nice to see Calendra still hanging around. :) Thanks for saying nice things.
CC was a nightmare. Doing all that stuff in the T1 engine made our heads hurt.
Anyway, nice to hear you are still playing it.
cheers,
Purah

Hey Purah!
So great to see the legendary master-creator of Calendra's Cistern. The man, the legend!!!
Yea, I must say I had great fun with CC and as a FM designer I couldn't get rid of the approach that I looked at things from the perspective 'how was it done in DromEd'. I must say I was amazed how well technically the mission was designed. Things like: Mercedes gesturing when she talk or putting together brother Aldrius body was something I think was almost impossible to do in DromEd...
I started this topic kinda teasing people to see what they like about CC... I think CC was better than the original Thief 1... The geography of the mission was simple, yet somewhat exceptional...
Great work! Now, I go play Autumn in Lampfire Hills. By the way, do you happen to have any kind of walkthrough for it? I couldn't find anything on the Internet...

I have only played about a half dozen or so FMs so far and was trying to put off this legendary mod until I had played a few more. However, I quickly lost my resolve and began playing and it was totally awesome (not a very creative adjective, but true)! I liked it more than I liked many of the OMs I've played so far (actually still working my way through TG and T2). I had a great time playing it...it is cliched to say this, but I didn't want it to end. I am now looking around it some more and am having a small problem (mentioned in another thread), but as a whole the mission was amazing. I just wanted to say how utterly impressed I am with it and congratulate those who worked on it.
The only problem is that now I am afraid to move on to other missions. Calendra's set the bar so high...although I know there are other incredible FMs out there.

You better atart Dling Calendra's Legacy now so its ready when you finish the Cistern. Its about 350MB but there's a split archive at Cheap Mission DLS :)
And the first Circle of Stone and Shadow mission "Gathering at the Inn" was just released, its an amazing FM. They just keep getting better! CC's is old so it doesn't have alot of features the new FM's contain.
