It was a great mission. It took me a while to find everything, but once I did... hoo boy! I loved the traps and and the atmosphere towards the end was awesome.
My only gripe, which is more comedic than an actual problem was I was in the Hammer Temple with the entrace to the sewers (cut down wall) and when I went to climb the ladder leading to the second floor, I was magically teleported outside on the other side of the wall. I got a bit of a chuckle out of it.
Thanks for the great level. If it doesn't get a gold, it should atleast be one of the highest rated ones out there!

Hi.
It was a really great level.
The atmosphere I think was one of the biggest assets to the level, it really made you feel like it was Halloween.
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifI also liked the nice touch with the cottage, pumpkins and everything.
Some of the things, that other people have mentioned as well, is that the moving of the files and some areas with very high polygon counts might be the only things holding it back from a gold mission.
But if it doesn't, it will probably be the highest rated one anyway, a 4½ - 5 silver hammer mission.

Yes as good as they come I would say. I must add though that I wasn't over joyed when the first readable in the cottage caused me to have to hard reset!I then had to sort out your folders. I know you will be kicking yourself for this error because it spoils what is otherwise a well crafted level. Some great SFX too. Bear in mind it is easy to nit pick even the export releases and not only those from LGS.
Anyway if Lampfire is not Gold then what will we have to do to get it? Good luck for the review you deserve it.

Oh no, not another "goldhammer opinion", but here we go
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gifLampfire is sure one of the top FM out there and will probably be valued as such in a review. But the "problem" is still that Goldhammer missions is supposed to surpass the OM. Personal opinion ofcourse but atleast I haven't seen a FM got *all* the parts right when it comes to story, level design, architecture, technical aspects etc. Not that all the OM have that either, but I do think most of the Thief players would agree that most of the OM's is it (we all have our favourite missions for a reason).
Purah, your creation *is* a damned fine one, no doubt of that, the main problem is some technical problems, and just technical glitches was parts of the reasons why some FM's got bronze instead of silver. In all fairness, shouldn't the same be judged between a gold or silver mission? So, why all this rant? To complain on Lampfire? Hell no, this one is in my opinion (worth as much or as little as you want
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ) one of the most complete FM sofar.
I just still believe that we all have so much to learn to get all the parts right, and until then, please let the goldhammer be our holy grail to dream about. Let it be our carrott (that last one is a part of a swedish figure of speech, not sure if it's undestandable
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif ). Some members of this forum is technical experts, other's good at architecture, a few is a really good storyteller, and some have their touch when it comes to level design. Don't remember who said (DN?) that the biggest chanse of a given goldhammer would be in a team effort in doing a Thief campaign, and I totally agree. And after the T2 team interviews, does anybody doubt that?
Hell, to be honest I think that the collected knowledge and creative minds of this forum/community easely would beat any T2 team rather easy
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif just because we're somewhat fanatic and such fans to the given dreamworld Thief gave us. We *will* create goldmissions. Just not yet, but until then, honour the choosen standard and thoughts behind the goldhammer settings.

Larson, it would seem that the double r's & t's in Garrett are highly contagious! Carrot will do ya Know.
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Seems to be a universal concept though. Dangling the carrot in front of the Donkey.
To be honest if one person did get a Gold Hammer then it would imply that this person was better than the whole LGS team and would thus be guaranteed plenty of work with an extremely high salary!! Plus me thinks that the Pros would be mighty pissed off to learn that their work would by definition be classed as inferior to an amateur production.
It must also be bourne in mind that LGS must have had access to complete information on Dromed and did not have to search the TEG forum for answers. So I think already that some of the FM missions are remarkable in that they are considered to be on par with the OMs.
Purah on 20/11/1999 at 23:24
Well, as stated, I am not aspiring to a gold hammer. Let me say that again: I AM NOT EXPECTING A GOLD HAMMER. Should I say it one more time? This post is a thank you. Nothing more.
Thank you for all the posts re. Lampfire Hills.

Oh, my letter was trying to focusing on the goldhammer givin' away as such, not at an particular mission in mind. Just that when a great FM do hits us, there's goldhammer talk. And this time it was the excellent 'Lampfire' mission, therefore the parallel. My focusing (failed of focus it seems
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif) was on letting the 'impossible' goldhammer still be 'impossible' for reasons given in my last post. Former posts in the subject do agree that hammers of whatever value is in itself pointless as long as the players itself enjoys the FM. And this forum is quite fast in mirror the mood of the masses of what FM's got that extra flashlights/attention. And in that, it gives the true nature of how to better value a mission.
But since the hammers do exist, they have become some sort of "official approval stamp". And valued as such the goldhammes is the ultimate goal to aim for. We do everything trying to reach that nirvana, constantly breaking new bonds and creations, and and.. Ah well, you got the idea
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif. So, let us use the goldhammer as *the* pusher, the ultimate carrott.. . . uh, withdrawing that last 't'
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif (old habits is not easy to break Gar(r)otte
Inline Image:
http://www.ttlg.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif ).
Anyway, hope I cleared up my point. Hell, I probably letting myself sink deeper in the swamp of confusion, but that's just me

That level was the bomb. However, I do think your walkthrough was fairly...incomplete. I think you should write one that is more...detailed.
First of all how in the hell do you get in the old hammer shrine. I was led to believe that there is a remote switch in some God-forsaken place. Please reveal the location to me because I have yet to enjoy the pure satisfaction of playing an awesome gold hammer mission.
I sincerely hope that you will consider making another fine mission, beautifully rendered and carefully planned. I offer a sincere thank you, on behalf of thiefs everywhere.

I teach college writing. I'm beginning to think a gold hammer is like an A in my class. I keep telling students "sure an A is possible....keep trying." But none of my students have ever had an A for the course. I feel bad about it sometimes, but then I mumble to myself some nonsense about maintaining high standards...and I feel better. Of course this is just a selfish ploy....but.... The average grade in my class is C+.
