At the very start of the map when I get the buy menu up, theres only food there, what good does food do? Do I need it? Is it good for anything?
When I pick up the book at the table in the first floor of the cottage the game returns to windows. Is this a bug or has this only happened to me? Is there something important in that book that I NEED to know about to finish the quest?

I think you get to buy only food because Garret's settled down now and the only shopping he needs to do is at the grocery store.
As for the book, there's an error in the zipfile. Detailed instructions are back in the archives (search, always search) but I think all you have to do is move three files from "Thief/Books" into "books". Or you can try fetching the file from my site; it has the fix applied.

Alright, I've found the dagger. Now what? I can't open the door to the weapon storage, I can't open the metal door next to the entrance to the library down on the walkway. And there are a bunch of doors that doesn't light up when I click on them that I obviously can't open.
What do I do now?

I ended up reading that buggy book in WordPad as I recall, right from the zip. I will get the improved zip though as this thread makes me want to play the mission again. This is one of those missions I was verily dissapointed with at first. The slow speeds around Garrett's house drove me nuts, but once I got to town I really liked it because of the architecture.

You mean the Hammer church? I've already been there, Only I knocked on the door with my blackjack and got inside that way. I can't get any further though, I've been in the library, in the Hammer Temple and the building next to the hammer temple.
And in the house where I found the dagger and in all other ouses that have a pickable door.

If anybody's interested..if you do a search under "SlyFoxx" at the bottom is a post "?RE: Lampfire Hills".....Nightwalker typed out the entire text of the book at Garrett's house. :sly:

Here's how to get into the places you mentioned:
The weapon storage:
You can't enter through the door (it's locked by a switch that can only be activated from the inside).. Walk around the building and look up for a window you can enter with the help of a rope arrow... That's your way in...
The metal door next to the library:
The key to this door is in the psychic's house, which is easy to miss.. To find it, start from your cabin, go down the stairs, and turn right. Look for a ladder in the area to the right of the stairs.. The ladder leads up into the psychic's house. Once inside, slash banners to find the hidden room. The key to the metal door is in the hidden room.
And the other posts are correct.. Definitely look for ways into other buildings using rope arrows (windows, chimneys, etc) if you can't find another way in....

Alright, I've finished every single quest except the that lock thing.
Where/How do I find the key?
The green book which is in the racks of right-hand side while passing by the small gate of the library gives the information
In the small temple on the place, it is necessary to launch an arrow to cord on the beams of the ceiling and to explore well, there are a switch and a hiding-place.
