unlocking the switch at the cottage and descending into the tomb with the groaning spirit and the ghoul at which point I kind of lost interest.
Regarding the thief/guard in the pub, is there a more elegant way to pickpocket him? At first, I tried standing behind him for at least 10 minutes before trying but he detected it anyway. Finally, I
wedged myself into a corner of the stairway where only he could see me and waved my sword at him. When he came after me, I led him upstairs and gas arrowed him out of sight of everyone else. There must have been a better way. Or maybe not?

That particular guard seems to be on permanent alert. I could never find a way to get his purse with him conscious, either.

I'll just check it at the end of the game and go back to get more loot. I finished with just 15 short of the maximum.:) You could always save the game first and then commit suicide by drownling yourself or jump of a roof (not in RL of course :nono: but in the game) when you'r dead you can access the status screen.

I was able to nab the purse off of the guy in the bar. It's a bit tedious, but I like to have X/X pickpockets when possible. Here is what you do:
If you are facing the door to the bar, turn right (90 deg.) and move to the end of the alley. Turn left (90 deg.) and look up. There should be a wooden eave or post up there for you to rope into. Climb up and turn around (@ 180 deg.). Leap across to the ledge on the other side. Walk along the edge back towards the front door of the bar. Directly above that front door is a wider area that you can stand on comfortably. It is really dark, but there is an unlocked door here that goes right into the roguish guy's room. Steal his coins and read his note. Now just go downstairs very carefully. When you are just one floor above the bar itself, move under the stairs. If you fire a rope arrow into the underside of the stairs going up here it should hang down juuust behind the rogue. It might take a couple tries, but you will have made it behind him without being seen. I also sat there a few minutes and let the girl say "Glad it was nothing!" before I nabbed the purse. I guess she heard me drop or something. Since the guy is expressionless it is hard to tell if he is onto you or not.
Sorry if this was a bit tedious. It is my first post. Thanks to everyone who reads this for your contributions. I have had so many puzzles answered here. I wish I knew about it before. Keep taffing.

Welcome to the forum, yellowsnow! :)
Also, thank you for the information about the purse. I never thought of trying a rope arrow, just tried sneaking down the stairs, but he always alerts. I'll give it a try next time I play through the mission.

this is probably a stupid question, but is there any way to get into the Succubus' oils and candles store in the Lampfire Hills level?
1) i believe there was a button that you could shoot.
2) crate stacking.
3) Jump from tiny ledage that you get too by another part of the level.
4) balcony across the way jump for it.
there is also a wooden beam above the balcony of the shop, if soo shoot a rope arrow.
I know I need to get into the shop right outside "my" house, as that looks to be the magic shop mentioned in the diary, so I can figure out the damn lock.
Where am I supposed to get up onto the roofs to get in there? I haven't been actually able to get on top of any buildings, just onto the ledges that many of them have.
Also, in the Hammer temple, underground -- there are two ladders that go up. One comes out in a little alcove, above a trio of sarcophogi. The other leads to a tapestry. But I can't cut the tapestry open, because I can't use my sword while on the ladder, and you can't swing while airborne, and there's no room to land if you jump off the ladder. How do I cut that down, as I've slashed all the banners in the temple and haven't found it yet?
Go down the stairs onto steet level. Turn right immediately and walk around the next corner and in under the roof (not under the stairs though, although it is possible). You are now directly below the alchemist's cottage. It's very dark there, which is probably the reason you haven't seen the ladder on the wall, which is what you're looking for.
About the Hammerite temple, I cannot recall the location you describe, so I guess someone else will have to take care of that.
