It sounds like you've missed a couple of things. The lock on the house opens a secret entrance inside the fireplace. You can jump down it, but I wouldn't just yet. There is a door down by the Library. Have you got a key for it yet? That's where you need to go and explore. If you don't have the key, go check out the Mystic's house. You can get into it by climbing a ladder that's not far from the bottom of the stairs you came down from Garrett's house. Make sure you slash the tapestries. :)

Thanks Nightwalker...gee, I'd sure like to have that memory of yours!!! I can't remember the details of a mission 5 minutes after I've finished it.
Actually, I walked right over the medallion earlier, but picked it up this time. Also, I've already been to the place that jumping down the chimmney takes me. I've got the leviation book and have jumped across to where the 6 golden urns were. I've set the mine off, but it sure seems like I'm missing something here...should I have found some leviation balm along the way? The sword remains unfound.

You jumped across to where the golden urns were. Do you mean across that big chasm behind the stairs? Did you explore anymore in there? I seem to remember that's where you get the sword, and it's pretty tricky. There's a way to open a secret door in there by depressing one of the pedestals. I'm not 100 % sure about that being where the sword is, but pretty sure. :)

Been stuck on this one for a few hours....time to ask the rest of you taffers for help....I'm in the Kings Crypt trying for the jewled sword. I can take the loot off the crypt but can't pick up the sword. Is the sword on top of the crypt a decoy...it does not look jewled like the dagger? Or do I have a computer glitch. I say this cause a few of the readable things I've come across either don't come up readable or in the case of the book in my cottage...cause my computer to to revert to the load screen or the Darkloader screen. I'd hate to be banging me head against a wall if it is another glitch. Thanks in advance for any help.

No, that's not the sword. Go out of that small room, out straight across the big room with the floating chests and in behind the stairs. You'll see a big gap in the floor with some stuff at the far end. You need to get across there to get to the sword area. :)
The only thing I know of for sure that you can't read is the book you find in Garrett's cottage at the beginning. It's definitely buggy. I don't recall having any trouble with anything else. This is the text from the book in the cottage:
Page_0: "Damn, I'm getting sentimental in my old age...starting to keep a diary!
Since the Rothchest sale/burglary I'm debt free and in a position to finally
start living comfortably. I purchased this cottage on the north edge of the city
in a neighborhood called Lampfire Hills with good intentions of settling down.
Unfortunately, this dreary world seems intent on drawing me further down the
spiral by offering just enough surprises to hold my interest."
Page_1: "Two days ago, I found a locked switch on one of the walls of my
cottage-it doesn't have a key. It may be magically bound because I can't pick
the damn thing even with hours of leisure time to spare. Curious, and with
nothing better to do, I asked around and did some prying.
The fellow who owns the grocery down the hill said the previous owner sold the
cottage to me after he grew uneasy. Said there was some old story about an
alchemist living in the cottage but refused to say more.
Tonight is Autumn Soul's Eve and it's been a while since I've gone trick or
treating. But this evening, after dusk, I think I'll give it a shot:"
Page_2: "1. For starters, I'm going to steal an antique jeweled dagger owned by
a rich fop across town (part of the Alarus Family)...the dagger once belonged to
a king. Maybe I'll start a hobby collection now that I'm out of debt.
2. The night will still be young; afterwards, or along the way, I have to do
some breaking and entering at the Keeper Library. There has to be an archive
somewhere detailing the plans and original builder of my cottage. From there, I
guess I'll go wherever I'm led in order to"
Page_3: "solve this little mystery of the locked switch. I like this
neighborhood because it's quiet, old, full of history and atmosphere. Lots of
people going out of town for the holiday though...can't figure out why. Maybe
it's that old legend that Lampfire Hills are haunted and Autumn Soul's Eve is a
prime night for spooks.
3. I guess I'll visit the psychic while I'm out. Maybe she has some info on my
cottage and/or other local legends.
After tonight, I should be able to tell one way or another whether the rumored
hauntings have a basis in fact...

Thanks Nightwalker....Can someone please tell me why I did'nt look under the stairs? I feel like a colmplete dufus. As for the book text. Thanks for going way above and beyond the call of duty. You rock Dude (Dudet?). :o :o :o

It's Dudet. :D and you're very welcome. Don't be too hard on yourself. We all miss things like that on occasion.

The first book from the cottage can be read if you just fix the zip file - the .str file for that book just wasn't zipped in the proper directory

I've done everything except find the secret of the locked something and steal it. I'm currently in the sewer system that i got to from the waterway underneath the town from outside Alarus' front door. I've traversed the entire thing and haven't gotten anywhere? Help!

Have you already been down to the area with the floating chests? I don't want to give too much away if you haven't. If you truly have been down there and opened them, then you just need to go to the back of Garrett's house and unlock the switch that's on the outside of the chimney. If you haven't, then before you go any farther, you have to make sure you have a certain key. Did you find a secret room up near the eaves in the small Hammer chapel? If none of this helps, post exactly what you've done and I'll be more specific.
