Not in the big cathedral. There is a small chapel you can enter two different ways, that I remember, but the easiest one is to rope arrow up and climb in a window onto the ceiling rafters. The secret room is up there and has a key you need.

Yes, go in the little annex chapel and go very very very high!

is the key on the guard? if so, i already have that key. what does that key do?
another question, i've found my way through the waterways beneath the city, im up to the part where i can steal the sword to accompany the dagger, but i can't find something heavy enough to keep the door open. do you know what part i'm talking aobut?

No, that's not the key. That only opens the front door of the chapel. You need to get up in the rafters and look for a button right up by the ceiling. That opens a secret door up there and inside that room you'll find the key that you need to complete the mission.
As for the sword, you can drag something across the chasm with you, or you can just stand on the pedestal until the door opens and then get over to it before it closes, which is what I did.

Okay, I know I'm having lots of problems with this mission, but bear with me.
I found the key, got the letter in my chimney. Now what do I do?

You need to go back down where you found the sword and use the key to open the floating chests. You can jump down through that hole inside the chimney, by the way. It's a little tricky to get in sometimes but it works and it's much faster than the other way.

Mine too - The cottage and the first parts of going into the city (the psychic's place, etc) really put a strong and good first impression on me which was never removed
