so anyways i just played on
sorry this doesn't help you out any draeknar
whoops i just noticed what the deal is ben.
unzip the mission and move the 3 .str files from fire/thief/books to fire/books and re-zip it.

Sorry it took me so long to actually notice this post! It is "I" the spud head who built Lampfire....Yes, ben, unfortunately I was still in the learning stages of DromEd and there are a few minor problems:
1) You DO have to manually move 3 of the book files...just like described above. Sorry. They are, unfortunately, fairly important files so go ahead and take the time...it will make the play more enjoyable and less frustrating in the long run.
2) The map will also crash the game b/c when I made it, I did not do it in the thief pallete...duh...stupid me...If you are a true dromedite you could always open the map file in paintshop, load the correct pallet and replace the old map...the map would then function fine...but the map is not really necessary I certainly don't expect anyone to go to all this trouble just to play my FM...
I have dozens of E-mails saying that Lampfire was highly underrated and was one of the best FM's they played....there were also those who hated it for various reasons....sigh.....anyway, hope you enjoy, and if you have any questions, direct them to me.
PS...a much better mission is coming (Calendra's Cistern) there is a link to it from TtDP.com where you can find screenshots, info on the design team and my e-mail address.
Cheers,
Purah.

Thanks for all the help with my little, er, problem. Yes, Mad God, you are right. Did some work on the computer, deleted the convict file and neglected to reload it. Things worked fine again just as soon as the file was back in its proper place.
I just discovered the fan missions recently and I'm really loving them. Unending thiefplay! Thanks to all of you who are working so hard and doing such a great job on these missions!

I meant to ask about this ages ago (as you can probably tell by the mission I'm asking about).
I was wandering around the town (as one does), avoiding everyone (because they're looking for me) and I happen upon the pub. I open the door and Garrett says "these guys look pretty friendly" or whatever it is. I wander around inside for a while and when I don't find much of note I go back out to the streets.
Just as I walk outside I hear what sounds like a crowd running. I thought it was coming from inside the pub, but when I glance back everything is ok.
The noise gets louder, I make for the nearest doorway with a dark patch out of instinct. Just as I make minimum visibility four guards (and maybe a hammerite or two) come storming around the corner in a real hurry. I was really worried, I was sure they couldn't have seen me; were they on a balcony or up in a building I didn't spot before?
Before I could think of an answer, they rushed past my hiding place and barged into the pub. I stood there glimpsing the action and listening to all the shouts and screams as they slaughtered every single person in the place; male or female, guard or civilian.
When they were done they just wandered off again.
I have been wondering ever since; was this supposed to happen (scripted), or by opening the pub door did I allow some interesting patrols/teams events to happen by themselves?
I remember there was supposed to be a curfew in place or something.
Either way it's one of the most alarming things I've seen in a thief game. To think I just missed sharing their fate.

Oh my God, if this is true, I gotta get my hands on this FM! This is fantastic! I join you in asking the question of how this is done! Simply fantastic!

yes, it is true. if you open the pub door and leave it open, eventually a guard outside will see the folks inside and attack. i think the "team" setting on the AI in the pub is set to "good", but should be set to "neutral" or somesuch thing. the "bad" team will attempt to destroy the "good" team.

Interesting! (I seem to remember teams being numbered 1 thru 4, but it's not like it matters.)
The marauders wouldn't have been able to see them in the pub, as far as I could tell. So the audio must have set them off, perhaps?
Damn cool effect. It's be great to be able to time that really precisely, so everyone has that moment while playing the mission. But then I suppose it wouldn't have that truly unique Thief organic/random feel that gives great replayability.

Heh, yeah...I kinda planned it that way, but it doesn't always work so well. It sounds like you got lucky and experienced the right kind of effect. Luring city guards back to your own front gate guard is kinda fun too.

I recall a post a while back about needing to copy a certain books file into a certain folder, but I can't remember which one. Right now when I try to read Garrett's journal it kicks me out of TL. Can someone help? Thanks.

The 3 files you need to copy are in "fire\thief\books" move them to "fire\books" and rezip
