OK, I'm at the end of the level. One objective left; the second crypt and medalion. The three guards and woman continuously circle the crypt I escaped from, nothing else is left standing, and I have enough loot. What is it I'm looking for?
To the rear of the main courtyard, under where the bowguard was, is an area with three small statues with inscriptions on the floor. What am I supposed to do here?
In the graveyard, are frobbable gravestones that the inscriptions can be read. But nothing can be taken. What is supposed to happen here?
The goodie room in the Hammer House loaded me up with water arrows, and holy water. Where are the gouls I'm supposed to shoot with all this undead ammo?
What do I have to do th finish the mission?

Never mind. I figured it out myself. Very clever...the way you did that!
Tried something else too. Our four friends in the crypt still walking were bugging me. Tried getting them to chase me, get them strung out and isolated, then whack them one at a time going back to their patrol route. They were a little to alert for that one so I left a little surprise behind for them before I went in. When I returned, they were asleep like babies.
I'm going to disagree with Tels on this one. These kinds of puzzles are up there with the tougher Thief missions. Even with a Prima Strategy Guide, the average Thief player would have a difficult time figuring them out.
Little bugs & all, 4 1/2 Silvers for "The Vigil". Banshee, you outdid yourself!
My favorite Schwarzenneger scene:
General, to Arnie, "Leave anything for us?"
Arnie, to General, "Only bodies!"

Viper: Well, once I found the builder on the graveyard (overlooked it a couple of times) it was easy. It gaves me the chills, though.
On easy/hard: Well, it was called diabolical, yes?

Hopehe fixes the bugs soon. Alas, there is not much point in playing it again, once you know the story

Afterthoughts: I think Banshee is avery able builder! This mission is great and many work has gone into it. since I never build a mission I might not be able to judge his work. So, dont think I am bashing it, just because I was annoyed by bugs and boring textures

I have to side w/ Tels. Although I liked the Vigil very much, I liked Edmund more. Some of the textures in Vigil were in frightfully bad taste! And picking doors I can't hear has always been a sign that the builder did not spend enough time on sound propogation. For me the mission climaxed after I soved the riddle of the three and and entered the tomb w/ the family...although the apebeast was nifty (i liked his little hoard of goodies and bones) the rest of the mission (hammer area specifically) had uninteresting arch. I actually didn't like the atmosphere all that much after passing the sewers.
Still, the tomb, the book, the family (minus them making noise forever in the crypt) and the ambient sound plus let's not forget the wonderful voice in the briefing...it all added up to a very enjoyable experience.
Banshee, thanks for all your hard work! You deserve a medal in level building excelence.

Played around with our four friends wandering around the crypt some more. Turns out they can be whacked. I just had to find a dark, quiet place I could get behind them in.
Got them to chase me to get them strung out and isolated. AI's can't jump, remember. The "Watch Barracks" overpass, and the Hammer House balcony can be jumped off of. Once you jump from one floor to another, the AI looses you while finding a stairway to use. The walkway from the main entrance at the double door, to the main square proved to be the dark, quiet place I needed. While AI is looking for me, I double back to walkway, AI gives up, returns to patrol route, and my ambush spot en-route. One by one, whack.
Come to think of it, the sewage treatment plant could have been used as AI water traps. The tanks had ladders to get out. AI's can't swim either. Didn't try that this time.

it seems everyone have solved the riddle of three, but not me!
i have skipped this part (i dont know what to do with that 3 sculptures? so i left) and went straight into the tomb. now i am at the place where there are two hammers patrolling back and forth and has another one overlooking the countyard with no other way out.

Pointers
As you enter the level, Garrett says, "This looks almost too easy". He's right.
There are guards patrolling the central square, and upstairs overlooking the square also. Take them out.
There are guards patrolling the crypt entrance. Take them out.
In the embalming area, there are instructions to the embalmer as to what to do, what NOT to do, and why. This is a MUST READ.
In the crypt area, the funeral sequence will begin when you enter. Then you're stuck until you find the way out. Remember what the embalmers note said? Now read the inscription on the crypt, and take a look around. (BTW, examine the top of the Dukes coffin very carefully also.)
The riddle of the threes. This can be solved before or after you get the book. In the other crypt area are three guardians with inscriptions by their owner.
Do you recall in the original mission, Return to the Cathedral, how, to open the door, you had to place each talisman in its correct holder? You have to do that here.
The guardians in question, among others, are buried in the adjoining cemetary. Each gravestone has an inscription that describes who they were, how they died, and perhaps some philosophy of life. If one were to somehow recreate the condition under which the guardian died, or emulate a philosophy of life, the guardian might be pursuaded to yield a gift or token from its eternal rest that might be useful in your quest.
Make any sense? Play with it some more. If I just told you how to do it, it would take the fun out of it.

This is one of the greatest FMs ever, except one small detail. When I left the sewers after the puzzle (great effect, by the way) I saw Hammerites with bows?!? All medieval priests follow the rule: "I shalt not use an edged weapon." Which means swords, axes, and arrows. I'm just letting you know. The mission was great, although.

If that's the Medieval Priests ruling on edged weapons, I can't help but wonder what they would have to say about electronic, battery operated, proximity detonated mines.
