No. There is another way out -- the right way out. Besides, you don't have enough time to grab the journal and leave the way you arrived (as far as I could tell -- I tried).
You are provided with a water arrow and a fire arrow, and a clue as to where you should shoot them.
I can't remember exactly how I figured this out (don't remember the clue itself), but it's worth trying before anyone tells you exactly what to do.
Looked for uniqueness among the various architectural elements.

Just remember--the person buried there was worried about being buried alive. So he left himself a way out just in case. Everything you need is right there. The most important thing is to read the scroll!!!

Thanks, guys... I finally figured it out.
What a great mission that was! Almost LGS quality; a bit linear, otherwise absolutely superb! (No scripted guard conversations, though... does any fan missions have those?)
Anyways... any hints on the three riddles on the hardest difficulty? I'm assuming the riddles refer to three people, one whose grave I found in the servant's graveyard (the treasurer). Other than that, I can't make any progress. Am I supposed to find items belonging to the persons?

use your imagination/creativity a bit in the
graveyard and you will succeed

The gravestones are all clues, some of which lead to the riddle of three. Maybe the graves tell you what to do, in a very vague way, ya know?
One last clue, the gravestones are local to each other and what to do, so to get what you are needing, that is where you look

Has anyone out there played through this FM? I like it, but I'm stuck. I got into the Ducal burial crypts and found the book. I don't know how to get back out of the crypts. I know it has something to do with the statues of the Hammerite and Keeper from the clue on the plaque. But what exactly do I do now?

Use the arrows you found on the statues. I believe they are described on the plaque.

Is there a hint or walkthrough anywhere for Fan Mission The Vigil? I am stuck in the burial room for the Duke and cannot get out.
After taking the book out of his tomb.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanx

Did you read the poem/clue? Did you do something with the fire and water arrows? Have you taken a look at some of the statues?
