I've heard the Doom door-opening sound in so many sci-fi shows I've lost track.

Yeah, but if you were to factor in a sound recordist or two, the equipment and time to record and process all of those to a certain standard then catalogue them, it's actually a bargain.

Watching BSG last night and heard the Garrett biting an apple sound.

That sound at the beginning of the clip is also used by the Fear Traps in Dungeon Keeper 2. It's very faint, but it's definitely that sound.
Also, I have watched Shaun of the Dead several times and I never noticed it. :weird:

Might Magic VI, VII, and VIII used that sound as their "eating" sound as well. :p

...and The Witcher 2 had the healing potion gulp for drinking his potions. Sounded odd especially since the first part had different SFX.
What struck me more today was that some of the doors in the apartment building here make the same opening sound like those metal attic storey doors in Shipping & receiving.

There must be a psychological term named after the phenomenon of immersing yourself so deeply in a particular piece of media that it buries itself deep into the layers of your consciousness, teasing out connections from the unrelated events of daily living back into references to that media, knotting everything together into a subliminal web of self-reflexive suggestion.
If there isn't, I guess I'm going to have to dub it as 'Furtumlagnea Derealisation Syndrome/Dark Projection Syndrome.'

How about 'Dissociative Garrett-Hoodie Sighting Syndrome?' (DIGSS)
