Hi there everyone, thanks very much for the praise, it makes all the hard work, late nights and two remakes from scratch worth it!! In truth I should have said that the chapel is not accessable on easy difficulty, but that would have made it a bit too obvious.
I know there are problems with the level, such as you cannot get all the loot on easy, the traps are not tripped by the guards etc. However that is what this is for, if you find the faults and point them out, I will try to correct them for my next level. I have already mapped out the first bit, and will start some time today! I will use thief 2 for it because you can stuff more things into it!
It was a daunting task to make my first level, but I think I managed to wade through the quagmire that is dromed with most of my sanity intact!
Again I would like to thank everyone out there for making their knowledge available for everyone, and its fans like us that keep thief alive.

Can someone point me to the location of the switch to open the secret in the priest's bedroom in the Hammer basement? I found the secret by trying to slash the tap and hearing a big clank. I read that some of you have opened it, but I can't find the switch anywhere in the room. I'm playing on expert and I've got 3283 loot and I'm hoping this room finish my loot goal.

Well, I did solve the dungeon trap problem.
Just don't trip it. I took Drannor back to the start and dumped him there while I look for loot. I noticed that his objective ticks on and off as you dump him/pick him up.
I'm only at 3225 for loot and have been everywhere so I have a lot of revisiting to do. I've been to all the hard places mentioned in the thread so now I have to find the easy loot I passed by without seeing, I guess :)
Other than futzing around a little with Komag's dromed tutorial I know nothing about making levels in Thief. One thing I have noticed is that the game does not lend itself to richly detailed rooms and corridors. We've all marched drearily down naked halls to check out 2000 rooms furnished with only a bed, a chest and footlocker.
Without loading up his rooms with details skarza does a wonderful job throwing in little extras that give life to his rooms and areas. In the Hammer Cathedral for instance, there are a few rooms with just benches and tables. But the benches are askew, as if the guards had just heard something and jumped up to smash Garrett's bollocks.
A great first level. I look forward to the second.

As an aside, have used this technique on some other FM's when my broadhead supply was running low. This mission lends itself to a large supply. Trying to rope up to the second floor window at the inn, I got stuck. Window was too small to climb into. Meanwhile, this archer was trying to take me out. He was a poor shot, and his broadheads kept going over my head. Many of them stuck in the wood overhang just above my head, and could be easily frobbed, and added to my supply. From my "perch", I could take out all the opposition, have over 100 broadheads in my quivver, and be on my merry way.
Awsome mission!!! :thumb:

No, you won't finish your loot goal in that room.
The switch is on the back of the statue to your right.
I'm up to a bit over 3400 loot and entering the wandering-about-in-tears phase of Thief :)
skarza on 30/3/2002 at 20:02
the windows are just big enough to get through if you keep at it. I wanted it that way. Trying to hang from a rope while climbing through a window is not easy.
as for the priests secret look at one of the statues in the room.
Brian_R170 on 30/3/2002 at 20:58
I still never saw that switch in the priest's room. I just blindly started frobbing that statue until it opened.
Is it possible to get to Smith's Square, Dayport, or the Memorial Gardens?
What about that room where the trap door opens when you grab the handle. Is it possible to get in there or is it just a trick?
skarza on 30/3/2002 at 21:01
dayport, the garden and smiths square are just there to add colour to the map, and the door is a trap nothing else,
as for the pit trap, there is a switch for it somewhere.
I can now add this one to my "done" list, thanks to some kind help from skarza. Thank you for the help and the marvellous mission, skarza!! :thumb:

Being 102 short of my loot goal -- and, by extension, 127 short of total loot -- and considering the fact that my arm is killing me, I am hereby quitting now...before I hurt someone. Anyway, great mission; draconian loot requirement, though. :weird:
