Hi all, thanks to nightwalker I now have a full list of loot locations, so if you are needing a final clue to the last missing bits, and thereby finish it on expert, drop us a line and I will get back to ya!
I had wanted to make the level bigger but I ran out of objects dromed would allow me to put on, thats why dayport, smiths square etc are on the map. I also now realise that I should have knocked the loot requirement on expert down a bit, so you can miss the odd cup and still finish, but hay whats done is done and I feel that expert should be just that.
Anyhow any questions that I can answer I will, let us know and I will get back to you.
Keep to the shadows,

First,
Yes, this really *is* an amazing first level. I'd have to agree with Lake's assessment, though, that there are some parts of this level that are annoying. Not being able to fit through a window and being trapped inside is not "challenging". It's f'ing annoying.
On the upside, there is an abundance of places to explore, and people to kill. I'd not kill them if I could help it, but I get clean blackjacks and the guards don't go down. Or I'll run off from an archer, he'll chase me, and I turn the corner to nail him with the sword and it goes right through him. For some reason, however, he can hit me rather easily. Annoying.
Finally, having to fish through the level for lockpicks is just bullshit. Where the hell is the first lockpick?
-Theef, not having a good day.

tsk, tsk, Theef. Things will get better once you get the lockpicks.
The first lockpick -
Find a street that ends in two big metal doors with an archer standing in front of them. On the right partway up the street there is a spot you can mantle up. Up here, you'll get a comment from Garrett and see a puddle of blood and an arrow pointing to the other side of the street. If you look up and across, you'll see a ledge with an "x" above it. That's where you need to go. Walk down the ledge closer to where the archer was standing and look up in the gap in the buildings at that end of the street. Quite a ways up, there is a light on a wood beam. Rope arrow into the wood beam, jump over to the rope and climb up to the ledge and you're on your way.
Now, be nice! :)

Theef, if you read through the posts in this thread, you'll find that the first lockpick is with the note left you by the guy you were supposed to meet. Have you made it there, yet? The second lockpick is in the locksmith's shop, and you need the first lockpick to get in there.
I played on expert and didn't have to kill anybody. I've knocked out everybody in the mission. However, I had to make a few attempts on the archer at the bottom of the ramp near the meeting point. for some reason he didn't go down on a clean blackjack, but I did manage to knock him cold after a couple reloads.
I did think it was annoying not being able to go through the windows. Some of them had tables on the inside which made it easier. The biggest issue I have is that you're told to go to the locksmith's place to get your other lockpick, but it's not marked on the map as "Locksmith" After I found it, I saw there is a picture of keyhole on the map, but it just didn't register (to me, keyholes are usually associated with Keepers). I spent some time trying to get into "Smith's square" because I associated "smith" with "locksmith." One of the toughest things about Thief is that you often have objectives that assume Garrett is familiar with the area, yet the player is not. The easiest way for mission creators to deal with that is to create a good map. Ironically, the map is one of the best maps I've seen in a fan mission. It's accurately scaled and detailed, and it shows you what area you're in. The only thing I would change is to write in the word "locksmith" and to either remove Dayport, Memorial Gardens, and Smith's square, or color them differently so the player doesn't waste time trying to get through or looking for ways around those gates.

Well, actually, I DID get past a couple of those gates (plenty of crates in this mission :ebil: ) I even got up on the roofs (Whats IS the plural for roof, anyway? Rooves?) once and promptly splattered myself on the street. Overall a bunch o' fun!

Ok, Ok, I wasn't playing nicely. Sorry folks. I apologize. ::hangs head:: but that was really frustrating. Somewhere, I remember playing a mission where you get a message in the briefing that said, "You lost your lockpicks somewhere in the vicinity of..." and still had to search to find them, but with this level being SO large (the very best part of this mission) they could be anywhere.
I ended up getting the second lockpick first. I spent most of this mission bashing in doors with the sword, and having to go head-to-head with guards, rather than use stealth. I get really annoyed when I can't use "stealth and blackjack" to get by. Here, I wait in shadows, lean, get a clean blackjack, but guards aren't going down.
I also love the whole rope-arrow thing, but there are places where you can't get your rope arrow back (locksmith courtyard) and you lose arrows. No resupply.
But I'm going to have to restart the level at this point.
Thanks for the help. And this is an exceptional first effort, I agree. Textures are pretty much aligned in most places, and the ideas for archetecture are realistically done (except for those bloody windows).

ok, I take it from earlier posts that windows to the inn are basically just ahem window dressing. (sorry had to do it) So how does one get into the Inn. I have already tried going
upstream from the front doors and it was blocked by bars.
I have about 1200 of the required 2000 loot on normal and I think I have been just about everywhere I can go except the INN!! Please help.
Good mission overall, yet I too encountered the blackjack problem. Hit a good one and what the ? they don't go down. The archer(meeting place) even said something like "that didn't hurt a bit" turned around and walked back to his post. I hit him again and he went down. This mission is very tough even on normal. Some of the guards are so strategically placed that I had to use every trick in the "Taffers handbook of KO's" to take them out.

To get into the Waterbridge Inn
Go across the bridge and not far past it is a sewer hatch. Go down there, down through the next hatch and look through the sewer tunnels for a boarded up section. Smash the boards and go on in. :)
Through the sewers is one way, but the first way I found was actually through a window. There are 2 windows on the south side (I think) of the inn. The one on the left is locked (but can be picked with square-toothed lockpick) and there's a sleeping guard in there. The one on the right is not locked and opens into a bedroom. From there, you can get into the rest of the inn. However, if you don't have both lockpicks, then come back later, because you need them to open some chests.

I tried for 2 hours to get into those ^%^*& Inn windows and got nowhere. It may smell bad, but the sewers are were I am headed.
