Sorry Theef, (vision clears) I was up late(midnightish) trying to get into those windows. I did find / acquire both lockpicks. I had one of those doh moments in this mission. I had cleared out all the guards I could (KO or Kill) and was just trying to see what I could see when I read the post on using
light at the meeting place to put a rope arrow in
I finally got around to mantling up next to the lightpost and saw the X and blood. That's when the whole mission finally came together for me, unfortunatley or fortunately, I had already been just about everywhere on the map. I am definitely going to redo this one on expert after I finish on Normal.

Last night I found the "X" and all that rot. My problem was shacking crates for the "assault" on the ledge. (I had read this earlier in the thread) and then I got Nightwalker's advice. In the meantime, I killed the guard out in front of the doorway leading to the Hammer fort thingy. Now I'm having troubles knocking off the archer in the tower (all out of arrows). I'm going to have to do a restart.
In other news, I was able to get into the Inn by that window, too. Getting into the Inn was the easy part. Getting good blackjacks is the problem. Is it just me, or are some of the dark areas *really* dark?

I dont know whats happened to that guy, he was ok to knock out when I tested it, but I think it may be due to him being on a slope, or being a bit too alert! Both things can lead to him not being so easy to knock out, that or he has a very hard head!!
As for the on going window issue, it is possible to get through them, the inn ones are very difficult to do, smashing them helps which you can do with an arrow. If you go approx. level with the open latch and look down slightly, you should be able to get through, but as I said earlier hanging from a rope and climbing through a window is not very easy. That being said I will keep it in mind for my next level.
.
There is also several ways into each area, if you get stuck on one try another, the chapel can be accessed by a swim, either by the front (difficult), or by the back (not so hard, but a longer swim)
I wanted to make a level that I found difficult, one with enough guards to keep me on my toes and enough loot to keep me looking. Alot of levels, even the original thief series I can complete, on expert in about 3/4 hour. Also I wanted the equipment to be needed, with most levels now I dont bother buying anything, or if I do its water arrows and flashbombs.
Well I appreciate all comment, good or bad, because they help refine my basic level making skills, and lead to a more well rounded finish

-Theef Theef, if you still have a rope arrow, you can get inside the hammer forge/chapel area via the balcony to the left of the archer standing over the doorway. There are two hidden weapon rooms in the basement levels. Search hints in this thread for their locations.

Hey Skarza,
I hope this hasn't started sounding like the "Theef Bitch Hour". I apologize if it has. My hat is off to you, or anyone who wades into Dromed. And There really is a lot to love about this level. Below street grade, on street level, and above. I did get into the window in the Inn, and it wasn't all that bad. When hanging from a rope in the locksmith's courtyard, I didn't mind leaping for that pitched roof and having to restart again and again. That's a test of skill, and it's a really good one. My only real problem was the lockpicks thing and the window size in some places. When you're trapped in a place and can't get out and get on with it, that becomes annyoing.
Maybe leaving a note or something in a wastebasket ;-) hinting at the location of the picks might help. It's certainly an easy fix. The window thing, well, I'd agree with your earlier post- it's done. Don't need to bother yourself trying to alter windows and such. I liked the idea of the metal slope to clang about on, but perhaps putting a guard at the bottom, and some moss arrows lying about elsewhere on the map would make it challenging. Torches?
I loved the wacky guard outside the gate just over the little bridge. I stacked boxes against the gate and then roused him. Beat the piss out of him with my blackjack. Niiiice. I also must concur with others that the map and the location system is better than most FM's I've ever played. I would agree, though, that signs that tell where you are might be helpful.
Let me please congratulate you, and not left-handedly, for a great job, and thanks for making such a great mission. Any mission that gets me to pull my hair out is a good one, I'll wager, for the time that I've been playing Thief is long, and my wife wonders at my addiction. Keep me addicted. :-)

Skarza,
One other problem I noted is the sleeping AI. The two guards in the two rooms in the inn will see you if you walk by in the hall with the door open, no different than if they were standing there wide awake on watch. I also wonder if you tweaked the AI sensitivity. At least some guards (maybe all) seem to have better hearing and vision than normal, and I wonder if that's why people aren't getting clean blackjacks like they expect.

Ooh, now I remember why I didn't have window trouble at the Inn! I went in the front door. The guards were acting kinda weird when they "saw" me. I think their reactions were built around the idea of somebody entering from upstairs?

If you're talking about the hammerite cathedral, you can't enter it if you're playing on normal difficulty.. The gate won't open and all of the other ways in will be barred off.. If you're playing on a higher difficulty, just jump in the water under the bridge near the gate and swim through to the cathedral yard...
Theef on 2/4/2002 at 14:04
Or, to get into the Hammer Cathedral area, you can swim under the bridge and over to the left of the archer. Get up out of the water and run up against the castle (you'll have to shift your way by the trees). There's a gap between the trees which allows you to shoot a rope arrow up into the wooden railing and climb up and get into the cathedral to begin your reign of terror.
Right now I'm in the cathedral, in the basement. I've looked everywhere for keys to the gate down there. I've also not gotten into the main chapel on the upper floor (easy enough to do, though). Anyone have any hints as to where the key might be? I've ko'ed the priest and taken the key out of there, and still nothing. I like this section of the game. More given to sneak and blackjack. Guards behave more like they normally do (i.e., they go down when you blackjack 'em.)
Fun, fun fun until daddy takes the blackjack away.
